Since I have a 912 ULS which doesn't have provision for carb heat, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with 912 carb icing and also if there is a reason no carb heat is needed or provided (if that is the case).
Thanks |

There was a long thread about this on the Matronix Rotax list. To summarize, the Bing carbs' used on the 912 are pretty resistant to icing. However there have been instances of it happening in severe icing conditions.

Chuck,
I have a sport hornet - see post under Sport Pilot Talk Forum Index -> Light Sport Aircraft Update on Sport Hornet – N25DV
http://sportpilottalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=971&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
I ask the manufacturer to provide the Coolant Carb Heat system - (Always On, without effecting performance or smoothness. Hot coolant runs only around the carb throat keeping it above freezing temperature. This avoids heating any incoming air at all that decreases performance and makes the engine run rough. Used in many aircraft equipped with the 912. Proven system)

this is from http://www.rotax-owner.com/support/FAQs.pdf
it says:
-Where is the mixture control?
The Rotax 9 series has automatic mixture control as a feature of the carburetors. |

X air Ireland has a little electric heater which fits the Bing carb.
I had one on the X air and it worked ok. Might be simpler to install than a coolant system. |
