Ok. Does color really make a 400 dollar difference between the 2 gps's. ? Anyone used both of the? I've used the 296 mounted in tecnams and remos but have never used the 196. I am wanting to get a personal gps and like the 296 but I don't think I want to pay the extra just for color it seems.
Thanks,
Glyn |

Glyn;
I have a 196 in my Quad city Challenger 2. that came in the plane when i purchased it and there is a difference between the 2 other then color. the 296 stores private airports where the 196 does not. I have to enter all the private airports manually.
There are other gps's that you can look at that are within the same price of a new garmin 196. some are the anywhere map, avmap,lowrance and bendix/king. you can find them at a place like aircraft spruce etc. |

I really liked both the AV8OR and the Lowrance 2000c. I was able to look at them side by side and decided on the Lowrance 2000c, which I really like now that it is in my plane.
When I compaired them side by side I did not like the touch screen of the AV8OR, which I thought I would really like. But it takes away a lot of space from the screen. Plus, it looked like it would be difficult to work the touch screen when flying, especially in bumpy air.
I decided on the Lowrance 2000c because of the larger screen, and the ruberized buttons located off-screen. The rubberized buttons are very easy to feel and work even in bumpy air. |

| ive been reading up on the lowrance and think i may go with it. only thing i hate is there are some bad reviews on it as far as button failure and such. but sportys has it for 599. best deal i can find out there. |

| Oh ya guess I was wrong they are just under 600. I think I saw them somewhere for 580 I will look and let ya know. I have not ever had any button problems with mine at all but maybe some have. I just like the idea of the bigger screen and it is really easy to operate and see when in flight. |
