After doing a number of flight reviews I noticed no one has the speed endorsement all sport pilots are required to have per 61.327. Note that before the 2010 rule update, only above 87 Vh had to have it.

How many sport pilots have this in their logbook? How many instructors provide this? I recommend in my training syllabus this is provided by the instructor before the checkride so that once the checkride is performed, the pilot has it.

A student pilot does need it because of the new regulation 61.89 (c) 5. Plus all sport pilots do. See 61.327 for details.

Pilots/CFIs do not panic, I think this is an endorsement that has fallen through the cracks by most. If you are a sport pilot and do not have it get it. Perhaps your flight review would be a good time to get it. If you are a CFI, start giving it and get it to your students who are now pilots.

Endorsements are a big confusion area so I have posted all of them in an easy to follow in order format at:

Yes I know that the FAA has a list of endorsements, but CFI’s still keep messing them up.

They are also listed exactly where they should be, in order along with the flight lessons in my flight training syllabus and work book for a “cook book” approach.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe 61.327 also states that if you have logged time as pilot in command of an airplane with a Vh less than or equal to 87 knots CAS prior to April 2, 2010 the training and endorsements are not required for that Vh group.

Yes exactly. I did not provide this detail because it appears most of the pilots are flying the >87 knot airplane. But yes, the below 87 knot group is covered here.

Here is a copy of the endorsement above 87 knots so it is easy for all:

I certify that (First name, MI, Last name) has received the required training of § 61.327 in a (make and model aircraft). I have determined him/her proficient to act as PIC of a light-sport aircraft that has a Vh greater than 87 knots CAS.

I have mine, when I originally pointed it out to my CFI he was unaware of the requirement. I also sent an e-mail to Arion Aircraft, the manufacturer of my aircraft, and informed them of this endorsement so their transition training CFI would be sure to provide this endorsement.

This endorsement should be done prior to solo for a sport pilot student. It is required by 61.89 (c), (5). Tom

I have mine also but can see how it could get overlooked.
