Paul..
I cannot even imagine how hard it must be to keep up with rule changes in so many places..

Here is one place to check on...

UNDER THIS LINK

You still have posted...

Student sport pilots pre solo training added, First: use of radios is a training requirement for all pilots ONLY if the aircraft is equipped with radios. Second: if the aircraft is above 87 knots Vh and equipped with flight instruments, the student will have to have Instrument training (flight by reference to instruments) for solo cross country per §61.93.

Does the instrument part need to be removed??

Also I ordered your Checkride book... Found the link to the 2010 updates.. Printed off 17 pages and posted them the to the book... While I am glad to have the correct information it was a daunting task to have to update your book..Maybe the updates can be presented in some other way.... Anyway Thanks for all you do for Sport Pilots. Myself and my 19 year old son hope to be one (well two),,, soon.. The DPE is only 100 miles away!!

No - the 61.93 (e) 12 instrument part is still there but it has been relaxed for airplanes with Vh below 87 knots. This does not include your airplane which is Vh above 87 knots. There is some debate about this, but the way I understand it, if you do not have an attitude indicator, a partial panel (airspeed, altitude, vertical speed, compass) is acceptable for this requirement. Note there is no time requirement for this.

You can se the updated regulation at
http://lsapilot.beasportpilot.com/airplane-lsa-pilot/sport-pilot-resources/lsa-faa-resources/
or directly at
http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=ecfr&sid=5a47c0b9616a3e0d174c66e357b2c7ad&tpl=/ecfrbrowse/Title14/14cfr61_main_02.tpl

Yes updating the checkride book is work but most of those pages are the endorsements which have been problematic so I presented them two different ways for the instructors.

Paul...
OK I see that now... Lots of stuff to read... No specific log book entry for that instrument training, right?? Just lumped into all the other training you receive??

So If you are signed off for a checkride it was the instructors responsibility to have made that part of their training? As a Sport Pilot Student I try to take some responsibilty in making sure I get the correct training and endorsements...

Thanks for the quick reply..

Yes a specific log book entry for that instrument training, as required before solo cross country, but not an endorsement. Training just like stalls, slips, etc. Yes Just lumped into all the other training you receive.

so Yes it is the instructors responsibility to have made that part of their training. However, sometimes these things slip through the cracks and your understanding of everything you must do is the sign of a good student rather than doing everything just cause the instructor said so.
