Re: Light Sport Aircraft for time building
On my 2007 Sky Arrow, converted to E-LSA status in 2009, this is what my Operating Limitations say: 10. This aircraft is to be operated under VFR day only. 11. After completion of phase I flight testing, unless appropriately equipped for night and/or instrument flight in accordance with $ 91.205, th...

Re: Hard starting Rotax 912 ULS
(Weighing the pair is consistent with the Rotax service bulletin, but one light and one heavy float could pass that test and still cause problems when banking or in steep turns). I check mine annually, weighing each float individually using a reloading scale. To date, I’ve never found an out-of-spe...

Re: New 360 camera on a selfie stick off the wing
Incredible technology. As I watched the video, the word "magic" popped into my mind as well, especially how the mount is rendered invisible. “ Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic ” - Arthur C. Clark Beautiful landing, BTW, and folks around here know how cri...

Re: Aircraft purchase "Short List"
Most all-metal LSAs use .020 (20 thousandths of an inch) aluminum skins. That's what we engineers call oh-two-oh, and Burt Rutan calls oh-two-thin. I’m sure an RV12 is a wonderful plane. But when I went to sit in one at a Sebring Light Sport Expo I was cautioned where to support my weight with my h...

Re: Skyarrow 600
Sorry for being late to the party. I was having difficulty logging in and I ended up neglecting the browser tab for quite some time. Briefly, I’ve had my Sky Arrow for about 15 years and have about 620 hours on it. Converted to ELSA about 2 years into ownership and it was a great decision. Took the ...

Re: Insurance rate shocker
From the original post in 2019: I just got a renewal quote for my Sky Arrow’s insurance. After 12 years without a claim, I had hoped for, if anything, a small reduction in premium. No such luck - it went from $961 last year to $1,218, a 26% increase. Along with the comment: “ We are seeing steep pre...

Re: Experiences with VL3 SLSA?
I thought longer wings meant less drag, all thing being equal. Is that not right?fatsportpilot wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:18 pmThe 135hp of the 915 also means the weight is so high that I'd need to use the longer wing to remain within LSA stall limits, which means speed goes down again.

Re: LODA required
Though I’m still a little fuzzy on the exact need for this foolishness, I emailed my request last Thursday and got my LODA for my E-LSA Sky Arrow in an email today. Also from Louisville.
This thread is what goaded me into applying, so thanks!

I have not seen the cowlings removed from the engine on a Sky Arrow but assume it exposes most of the engine for servicing like other aircraft cowlings. Other than it being high up in the air I would think any service would be fairly easy. https://live.staticflickr.com/5018/5489631092_35a76175a2_z....

Re: Brake Life Expectancy
Most people who are familiar with the Marc brakes will agree that they should be replaced regardless of their condition. To be fair, the Marc brake pads on my Sky Arrow still had some life left in them after nearly 600 hours and 14 years. Lots of local lights with a fair number of touch and g...
