Re: SUN N FUN 2021

Can you comment on the Bristell booth, if they were there? I walked by Bristell section a few times, but I didn't stop and talk to them. The SportCruiser was a hard no-go for me: impossible to close the canopy on my head. The Bristell might be a fraction better, but it's expensive and I didn't have...

So, can anyone tell the story with the skywriting jerk? I could not read what he was trying to transmit. All I got was the noise.

Re: SUN N FUN 2021

I mostly patronized Whelen - got a beacon and a landing lighjt. I wanted the beacon for a long time and the price just goes up. The show price was better than normal Spruce price. And the landing light died on the way up there. I'm pretty sure I bought the last one of each. Unfortunately, my vacuum ...

Re: SUN N FUN 2021

I'm going to be there Tuesday to Friday, with camping. It's my first time for either SnF or airplane camping.

Re: LSA Fly-In @ 9F0 Dublin Texas - October 10, 2020

Unfortunately, the manufacturers aren't coming: the official Expo program is canceled, and only the fly-in part remains. But they promised food.
The weather is going to be VFR. The hurricane Delta is landing late Friday, but it's much too far to have any effect at all.

Re: Scud running and your minimums

I fully agree. I squeeze into "mail slot" readily as long as I can see the horizon, but I would never want to fly in a bowl where I cannot see. There may be precipitation or fog ahead, or a raising terrain. Also, I'm big on the forecast trend. If it is forecast to worsen, and I need to bea...

Re: Tecnam Sierra down at Santa Fe, NM (KSAF)

From the NTSB Preliminary report: "A witness located near the departure end of the runway reported that as the airplane took off, it did not climb very high and then went sideways and nose-dived towards the ground. Preliminary review of surveillance camera video, located near the airport termin...

Tecnam Sierra down at Santa Fe, NM (KSAF)

A Techam P2002 Seirra went down at SAF, on April 8, at about 2140Z. Pitot and instructor were doing T&G. Both died. Michael Szczepanski wrote on FB "Very sad day at SAF. I'm ok, but we've had a huge loss." Looks like a departure stall. Wreckage is located off the departure end of runwa...

Re: High Altitude Airports and LSA

I live near Colorado Springs. We're at over 6,000 ft making density altitude a major issue as is the unpredictable winds we get here along the front range. I rented from NM Sport Aviation, based at Santa Fe (KSAF - 7000 ft), and took their Remos GX to Angel Fire (KAXX - 8400 ft). It's not a problem...

CTLS chuted down, FL

https://www.news4jax.com/news/plane-crash-reported-in-hunting-camp-in-putnam-county I'm glad that more people decide not to play super-pilot and try to land out, pulling the chute instead, even though CTLS has a smaller stall speed than Cirrus. That said, back pain, possibly back injuries for both o...

Re: Fatality - USSYorktown

Would you recommend the ICOM A220? Other than your intercom problem, would you say it is a good radio for light sport VFR? I think you'll never have my problem because you're going to have an intercom between the radio and headset. Carlson is a single-seater, so headset goes straight into radio. An...

Re: Fatality - USSYorktown

[My brother once flew a Baby Ace from Idaho to Tennessee without talking to anyone on the radio. But that was 40 years ago ... I few a Carlson from New York to Texas last October, also didn't talk to anyone. I forgot my usual headset in New Mexico, and borrowed by wife's Bose A20 for the flight. It...

Remos oil hoses diameter - Rotax requires 11 mm

NTSB posted a factual report about the fatal crash of N28GX. The airplane was maintained with no expense spared, which was unusual for a rental to tell you the truth. However, the investigation found a sheared drive pin. Apparently, Rotax claims that hoses were too small and that causes pulsating oi...

Re: Fatal LSA crash in Iowa

X-Air seems to be some kind of derivative of Kit-Fox like plane .... Actually, not at all similar. The Hanuman or X-Air was a clean-sheet design with a lot of ultralight elements, such as Dacron covering and aluminum tube construction. The Avid and Kitfox use a conventional steel tube construction ...
