The view with the doors off is awesome. Totally worth doing. Just make sure you have everything secured (at about 500' AGL I suddenly started thinking "is my wallet really secure in my pocket?" :)) and do it!

Congrats on the purchase.

I had exactly the same questions. Yes yes. Side note: Don't be surprised if the folks at the FSDO aren't sure about such things. I was told by my local FSDO that student certs don't expire and wound up quoting CFR part and section to them before getting my SP student cert. I They don't deal with a l...

Re: Miscellaneous Cost for the Sport Pilot License

Guys, I want to know how much do the following things cost. If possible, how much does it cost in NJ to get these things: Student Sport Pilot Certificate-I read somewhere a long time ago on the Internet that these things usually cost like $50 or something around that. Is that true? Mine cost about ...

Positive exchange of controls...I've flown with CFIs who did, and others who didn't, and positive is better....but honestly I wouldn't call it a deal killer in itself. I respectfully disagree. I've had students on the rudders or stick that I could never have overpowered in an emergency.... Good poi...

You don't have to. It is. A plane like the Stemme S10-VT would be a lot less fun otherwise.

Well... I'll admit I posted that in part to trigger dialogm but.

Shutting down for normal flight is OK but doing it for demonstration is not because?

Yeah I didn't mean that as a calling out. It's just that the H vs K + H difference seems to recieve disproportionate attention. If you can save $500 using a K instructor for your SP you may well break even compared to H all the way. Given that, shouldn't the discussion be about education quality and...

Preflight should be part of every lesson, IMO, and ideally the plane shouldn't leave your sight between preflight and flight (especially rental planes). However, I'm not sure all CFIs really consider a discovery flight a lesson in the "part of the syllabus" sense, and on the discovery flig...

I can't help being a little saddened by some of the underlying assumptions in the subpart K debate. First, there's the weird way the required hours is stated by the FAA. Paul just said 30 but the FAA doesn't. E.g. "(a) For an airplane single-engine rating. Except as provided in paragraph (k) of...

Re: low wing or high wing

... If we are talking about high vs low wing in the LSA catagory, in your part of the country, I would go with a high wing, maybe something like a REMOS that you can fly with the doors off. Look how close to the ground the wing is on low wing LSA models. ... With appropriate disclaimers for my limi...

I know there are people with "disabilitys (i hate that word. Just cause i dont have a limb doesnt mean im disabled...) that fly. I have the number to the International Wheelchair Aviators, just havent called them yet. Yep. I do somewhat wonder if the SODA process is needed with SP, or if that'...

Heya Wrench! Greets from a fellow DFWer/LSA student.... From what I've read you are going to be in "SODA" (statement of demonstrated ability) territory due to the leg. I don't know if it's a big deal or not, and I don't know if sport pilot is any easier, but there's a way forward whether y...

You can test the speaker side of your headset fairly easily if you have any audio equipment with a 1/4" headphone jack, or a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter. Just plug it in like a pair of headphones and listen. It won't sound great (mono, bad frequency response), and it may not have much volume, bu...
