Re: RV 6
In a stall, the angle of attack goes critical. If the wing is at a high angle of attack, so is the pitot tube. So, the airflow is diagonal across the pitot tube, and the ASI reads very low. [...] In truth, 45 KIAS at a high angle of attack can really be well over 50 KCAS. So could you maybe put the...

Re: RV 6
Here is one for sale right now: http://www.barnstormers.com/ad_detail.php?ID=828457 Interesting how the price gets marked up once the airplane is LSA. (You see something similar in Ercoupes and Taylorcrafts for sale; The LSA ones seem to always be a little more expensive. But not twice the price! Th...

Re: Thoughts on the Zodiac?
I had not realized that 6g was Ultimate. That means it's really only rated for 4g, presuming that the ASTM standards use the same 150% rule as normal certified airplanes. (The SportStar documentation, for example, says its' rated for 4g and has been tested to 6g, which I interpret to mean that 6g is...

Re: Thoughts on the Zodiac?
It's NOT aerobatic. Don't even consider it if that's your interest. Why not? If it's rated for 6G, rolls fast enough to do an aileron roll without the nose dropping too low, flies fast enough to go into a loop without exceeding the max speed or the G limit... then it's aerobatic, no? I don't mean y...

Thoughts on the Zodiac?
Hey everyone. I'm trying to learn about the Zodiac LSA. Specifically, as you might be able to guess, I'd like to know whether you think it's a safe airplane , i.e. whether the mods are sufficient to prevent tragic accidents like the ones that happened in 2005-2009. As you probably know, when the LSA...

Wow, lots of really interesting points. I definitely have one big take-away message from this thread. Before I get to that, I should reply to the earlier comments: LSA might not really be a cheeper option for flight schools compared to an old Cessna for a low capital investment. Right. I just figure...

Exceptions to Part 103 - "Fat ultralights"
I just joined this website , so I apologize if this question has already been covered at length, or if I am asking it in an inappropriate way or in the wrong place. On these forums , it was pointed out how one of the motivations for the FAA to create the SP/LSA rules was to regulate "fat ultra...

What is the market for 150-thousand-dollar LSAs?
Hey everyone. I just joined this website . I realize that my question has been addressed on other threads , but only tangentially. I would like to ask it directly. There are a lot of LSAs out there that cost well over $100K. The Sting, the Remos, the Skycatcher, the Bristell, the SportCruiser... My ...

Hello from Seattle WA
Hello Sport Pilot Talk! I could tell you all about myself, but to make a long story it short, suffice to say that I did a bunch of Light Sport training (enough to pass a checkride… or so my first instructor incorrectly believed) and then transitioned to Private Pilot (at a better flight school, wher...
