Re: G3X cross country student

Best way for me to learn new avionics is try to teach someone how to use them. It forces you to really study and work through menus.

G3X cross country student

Got a kid who is going on his solo cross country in an airplane which just had a Garmin G3X and autopilot installed. Joking as we were talking about flight planning he says “ how will you know I didn’t just turn on the autopilot and not use all this planning” I said if the flight aware is perfectly ...

Re: Who is excited about the new Flight Simulator?

Bought a new Honeycomb brand yoke and waiting for release of the new sim. Hoping it may work good enough to justify buying a few screens and making a sim to use for initial training before getting in the real airplane. I’m not worried about it counting in a logbook just something to give the student...

Re: Funding for GA Airports

We are 100% aviation only business but I was lucky to have some things work out along the way to offset big disasters too. Any one could have been the end of it but we kept going and it’s ok even through the current global situation. Honesty I’ve been too busy in the shop to be affected. But that be...

Re: Funding for GA Airports

I own and operate a small GA airport 3100 ft paved runway with 70 based airplanes, 2 maintenance shops on the field, paint shop and avionics. Because the airport is privately owned I’m not eligible for any of the funding discussed. It might be possible if we were included in the NPIAS program but I ...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Sand the spar face bare in that area and then spray a little water on it. The water may soak into a crack differently than the grain and make it more visible if there. I’ve usually seen a light or dark line that jumps. Or in this case the grain waviness I would expect to see some light vertical line...

Looks like a good home for the airplane. Glad you made it. Let us know what you find in the wings.

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

The Baby Ace should not have a metal spar cap. Hopefully it’s just nails from the aluminum wing leading edge skin working out. If you need to change a spar the best way to break the bond is one of the oscillating cordless trim saws The thin blade will work right through the glue and you can leave th...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Some of the biggest adventures begin when you land and then figure out you can’t taxi downwind or crosswind. Fun times. Check with Locals on what route they recommend to AZ from there. They might have some other ideas that work with local terrain, traffic and border patrol. Low and slow with no tran...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Planning on loosely following interstate 20 then 10 towards Tuscon? Looks like enough holes to get around the airspace and restricted areas with no transponder. Any trouble following that close to the US border? West of Pecos and East of ElPaso will be a little lonely. Really neat trip to fly. How h...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

One other suggestion. Sit in the cockpit and find the stick position where the elevators appear neutral (streamlined with the horizontal stabilizer) In homebuilts this is often very far forward of what would be neutral in a J-3 or champ. Make a mental note of this position so your not surprised by w...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA

Your just finishing your tailwheel endorsement? ? FInd anyone to take a look at the airplane? 1. How did compression test come out on the engine? 2. Prop torque check and is timing ok before you try to head west? 3. Gascolator clean? I’d put avgas in it for the trip if they are running autogas. 4. G...

Have you flown a 2005? There are some differences.
