Re: Who owns a C162 Skycatcher? Some questions could use help with...
Doesn't the 162 have a secondary battery so that the PFD won't reboot during start? Taken from the POH: NOTE The PFD will be operating on the secondary battery only. The secondary battery is not a back-up battery. It is included in the electrical system to limit display presentation issues that migh...

Re: CFI-G to CFI-S ASEL Questions
You read my mind with this thread. I'm a sport pilot ASEL finishing up the last bits of my PPL-Glider, with plans to get my commercial and CFI-G as well. Thought about potentially adding CFI-S ASEL after that.

Re: Light sport dying?
I don't check here as much as I used to but I still pop in. I haven't flown anything light sport in over a month and a half since I've been training towards my Private Pilot - Glider certificate. I don't think light sport is dying exactly, but I might be a little out of the loop.

Re: Upgrading to Private from sport in a glider
Realized I should give an update to this thread detailing my training so far. Started at my club at the beginning of last month and got two glider flights in (had to decline the third one as I had plans later that day). Sadly it rained just about every day my instructor and I tried to fly so wasn't ...

Re: Upgrading to Private from sport in a glider
The only difference between you and a private pilot airplane guy is you have to take the knowledge test. The endorsements should be the same as for a transitioning private pilot. As a glider CFI who knows sport pilot rules I would be happy to talk to them if you wanted. BTW you could add glider at ...

Upgrading to Private from sport in a glider
Right now I have a sport pilot certificate rated in ASEL with ~54 hours. It was my understanding since I have more than 40 hours in airplane I would be subject to the requirements that normal private pilots take to get a glider add on rating where its 3 hours of glider time with 10 solo flights and ...

Re: Light Sport gliders?
I'm a Sport Pilot ASEL right now going to start glider transition training here soon and will simultaneously upgrade to Private from Sport. One thing that's confused me is if a Private Pilot - Glider can fly at night, I've been told both yes and no, no as in you aren't supposed to fly and night and ...

Re: Hello from Murfreesboro, TN
Welcome! I myself trained for my sport pilot license in the 162 (although I'll be transitioning to gliders/upgrading to ppl very soon) and I loved it. Of course it's useful load can be very limiting but I loved the Garmin G300 avionics and it felt very sporty to fly.

Re: Specify Aircraft Type
The other day was flying a Tecnam P2002 (SIRA) and was heading into a class C airport for a touch and go, took three calls of "huh?" and "Say aircraft type please" to get the point across. I usually say "we're a Tecnam P2002, identifier Sierra India Romeo Alpha" and tha...

Sport Pilot upgrading to private in glider
Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask, but I remember some forum members mentioning they are glider pilots/fly gliders. I've been flying as a sport pilot for some time now, and of course the inevitable question of upgrading to private pilot comes up, mostly from other pilots . I have t...

Renting/Flying Privately Owned LSAs
Currently, I am renting aircraft from a flight school with a healthy fleet of light sport aircraft, and I've had lots of fun in doing so however the airport is a little over an hour drive from where I live. During my training, I trained with a flight school that was closer to my house however they s...

Re: Class D/C/B endorsement question
So is my endorsement illegal? I'm actually kind of worried now  Did the instructor give you ground training on the the flight rules for operation in class B airspace? Yeah we went over it. We just never went flying in actual class bravo airspace. He told me since we never flew in class B air...
