The good news is that AOPA is now publicly stating they expect the 2020 deadline to be rolled back.

Re: Why can't an LSA with a Rotax 912ULS go into IFR conditi
Actually, the answer doesn't have to do with ASTM IFR standards or FARs per se. If an aircraft is built and maintained as an SLSA then the airframe manufacturer gets to say if it can flown IFR or not. All of the airframe manufacturers to my knowledge refer you back to the engine manufacturer and hav...

Re: Sport Pilot to Private - Medical (& student?) Certificat
Your student certificate is in error ad such is not valid. You cannot be a student pilot once you are a rated pilot. If OK ever gets caught up from the government shutdown you and your AME will likely see your paperwork kicked back. Your CFI should not be signing your student certificate nor providi...

Re: floats on a SLSA
It's my understanding this if a manufacturer plans to put floats on the plane they either need to use part 23 certified floats or go through the ASTM certification process with the floats on. That's been the hang up on why there aren't more SLSAs with float options. The other option is to reregister...

Re: Rotax engine questions
We've moved almost our entire fleet over to E10. Prior to that very few of the engines were making it all the way to the 2000 hour TBO because of lead related issues. We expect to see nearly all of them do so now. Rotaxes should not be run on 100LL if you can avoid it. Ethanol is fine so long as you...

Re: Rotax engine questions
Yes, you can go you the gas station and get 93 Octane with up to 10% ethanol so long as the airframe manufacturer authorizes it (which general depends on what the fuel tank is made of). Your engine will last a lot longer and will require less routine mx if you do this rather than buying 100LL for tw...

TBO might be 2000 but plan on getting around 1500 if you are running 100LL.

Re: 180 HP Non-medical proposal
From what I understand, it was attempt #8 from those two groups at getting it passed. They just didn't do the media blitz wit the first 7 attempts. My bet is that who ever has it sitting on his desk at the FAA is waiting to retire and pass it on to the next guy. I mean honestly, would you want to be...

I have two Subpart K instructors on our staff of 14 and they are two of the busiest instructors we have. I'll likely be looking to hire another instructor or two come spring. K and H instructors both invited to apply.

Re: Aircraft endorsements
No. A CFI certificated under subpart K such as yours can only endorse you to fly an aircraft that meets the light sport definition. An RV-7 does not meet the light sport definition. You will need a CFI certificated under subpart H (traditional CFI who holds an instrument and commercial certificate) ...
