I can't claim much knowledge, but I was lucky enough to get some time in an R-7 today and loved it. Saw the R-6 but didn't fly it. Both looked very well put together though. I highly suggest you check them out further. I'll wager a guess it was this S-7....got a few hours in it myself. http://i92.p...

Nice looking airplane but I have to wonder, is that a sport pilot legal weight? ......What is the empty weight?..... Here's the specs. Looks like 815#, so with full fuel, there's only 350# for pilot, pax and golfclubs. :( PERFORMANCE METRIC US Takeoff distance 85 m 280 feet Takeoff over 50 ft obsta...

Howdy Tom, I busy as ever, but it pays the bills. You still taking care of anitque planes? Wish there was a why I could help you realize your dream. It's real shame about the cost out your way. I think cost is the main hurdle to all aviation. Light sport didn't fix the money problem. Also youth of t...

Our club C-150 is $31/hr wet. but most use our 172 since it's only $47. PPL in 60hrs is <$2000 C-150 or $3000 C-172. Add instructor cost of <$2000 and Private is still doable. My guess is: reasonable rates aorund here is partly why Light Sport primary training has not taken off around here. I know 2...

Actually there is a minimum time requirement.

FAR 61.109 requires a CFI to sign off that the "student" has received 3hrs training within the preceding 60 days.

So in Jeff's example: since it was >60days, he would require the 3 hrs, even if his original instructor was around.

I guess I'm not a "sportpilot" as I have my PPL. But have pretended to be a SP many times. :D I helped build a Rans S-6, see the Utah Fly-in post. I will certainly be helping to build a Rans S-19 in the coming months, see the S-19 Pirep post. Our trip could have been completed by a "s...
