Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal

Post by Student Pilot Sara 29 »

Hi! I was wondering is anyone caught a commercial on TV that said something about, "Alaska's Bush Pilots...The Real Deal"? It was something like The Discovery Channel and it had this documentary about those pilots. I've always wanted to be a bush pilot in Alaska and although I am a female, heck, why not go for it? it said something about a HD DVD 1080i (whatever that is) and being released in the U.S. I can't seem to find it, anyone know where I can look for it? Help! Thanks, Sara.

There is a lot of great women Aviators in Alaska. Many of the Air-Taxis are operated by women.
Before you head up there to fly, Learn to control the plane in slow flight. When coming up on a beach or clearing you MUST know the aircraft you're flying so well you don't ever lose authority of the Roll, Pitch and Yaw. ("Wind gust or shear" is just an excuse low skilled pilots use.)
Once you get your license, spend all your flight time at a safe altitude practicing Slow flight Steep turns, Power on/off and accelerated STALLS. You should be able to control a Spins well enough to roll out on a desired heading. Practice every flight maneuver that teaches you slow flight control.
A Cub friend told me he flew over a hundred hours and never went 10 knots above stall speed except in recovering from Stalls and Spins.

If you can get to Talkeetna there are quite a few women pilots and mechanics around there. Might be a place to start looking.
