Since im here posting I wanted to post on an era now passing on. As we know Elsa's can no longer be used for flight training and with that the venerable Drifter which I had flown for so long will no longer be on the flight line on the beach. Replacing it will be the FK-9 MK IV on baumann floats which is soon to have a video of its own showing its stuff too!
However there is somthing simplistic about puttin about in a drifter which people will miss. *I say people because I still fly this bird today but for personal pleasure* But check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsTCr8zqX_Y Not all Lsa's have to be sleek & fast.

Did I miss something? My understanding is that E-LSAs cannot be used for flight training for hire. But, I know of no regulation that says the owner of an E-LSA cannot hire a flight instructor, and get trained in his or her own airplane. Am I mistaken?

An ELSA's could be used for flight instruction for hire up until Jan. 31st 2010 provided it was authorized in the operating limitations. They tried to get some kind of extension or approval for the training to continue, but it did not happen. The big problem is with the new regs becoming effective April 2nd requiring an endorsement for slower than 87 KTS. There are not may SLSA's that meet the requirements for the endorsement, where most of the old ELSA's could. Tom
