Why can't CFIs train us in ELSAs anymore?

After the ELSA deadline passed no one can be trained in an ELSA for the SP certificate-why?

Your statement is not quite correct. If you own a E-LSA you can take instruction in it. If you own a E-LSA and are an instructor you can give instruction in it, but you can not charge for it in any way.
The FAA allowed some E-LSA's to be used for training for a period of time because they were already being used for flight training for ultralights by BFI's before becoming E-LSA's. The deadline for these converted ultralight trainers has now passed, and they now can not be used for compensation or hire. Tom

So hypothetically, if I have an ELSA, and want to be trained in it, does that mean that no CFI would ever want to train with me because instruction is now free? The instructors want to get paid?

And we can still charge you for OUR time. That's not a problem.

What would prevent an instructor from setting up a non-equity flight club, where the members pay a modest buy-in fee, then a monthly club due, and an hourly operating cost. Is that something that could be done in an ELSA? And then a CFI, member of the club, could teach in the plane.

A partial ownership deal, or a "rental" arrangement?

The plot thickens... 14 CFR 91.319(f) says: " No person may lease an aircraft that is issued an experimental certificate under §21.191(i) of this chapter, except in accordance with paragraph (e)(1) of this section.".

(e)(1) deals with glider towing.

Does anyone else get dizzy reading the regs?
