FAA Stance on Sleep Apnea

Post by newamiga »

Not sure how many folks also saw the webinar today by the Federal Air Surgeon for the FAA? It was about the sleep apnea rules change. Apparently, according to folks who listened live, he was asked something along the lines of "If you concede that pilots affected by screening for sleep apnea might then decide to fly as sport pilots, is it not true that the sport pilot category is every bit as dangerous as sleep apnea is?" He danced around the response apparently. I am waiting for the streaming version of the Webinar to get uploaded to hear it first hand.

I agree with that comment that you should assess before every flight but why should the emphasis be different between the two classes of certificate?

Just because you decide not to get tested for the issue of a medical certificate doesn't mean you're unfit to fly. I could just mean you couldn't afford the $5000 for the sleep apnea test.

I never said or implied it does. Why are you quoting me?
I agree your quote taken by itself does not imply that, but when placed along with the original post that is the way I read it.

It might just be that I wanted to save your post for posterity's sake.

I don't mind that, but I don't like people attributing a statement to me that I did not make or imply.[/quote]

I'm pretty sure you made the statement I quoted. :?
I'm sorry if I mistook the meaning of what you wrote, but in the context of the whole thread that is the way I took it.
