Delay BFR

Post by langj »

What are the disadvantages of delaying my flight review. It's been 2 years since I got my sport pilot license. It's time to do my BFR. Unfortunately, some unexpected and unplanned events happened and income is extremely tonight for a little while. I don't think I will be flying for a few months obviously not until I do my BFR. What I want to know is if I go beyond the date I need to do my BFR is it going to cost me more I the long run. Thanks for your help.

I have pilots come to me all the time who are waaaaay out of currency and want to get back into flying. The FAR says a flight review must include at least one hour of ground instruction and one hour of flight instruction. Ground must include a review of all FARs that have changed in the interim. That is a minimum requirement; it is up to your CFI to determine what you actually need. Just last month I worked with a private pilot who hadn't flown in over 20 years.
He ended up receiving 6 hours of dual, 5 hours of ground, and a signoff. He's now safe as a PIC again.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.
