Sling 2 build / Midwest Sky Sports

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, that must be why the designers at the airplane factory made their plane look a little like a SportCruiser.

Don't hate, imitate.

I'm sort of partial to the white, blue and silver SportCruiser myself. :P

There are many airplanes that use vinyl for color. Flight Design is one. IMO, vinyl is better suited for a composite airplane. When applied to a metal airplane with rivets, and panel seams it just doesn't look as nice.

OK, back to our airplane build. We had a 1 month delay waiting for the airframe parachute to ship from the former soviet union...anyway, after delivery and install of airframe parachute, the Sling 2 is in the paint barn! I only changed my mind on paint scheme 20 times..final decision was to go white top (FL heat reflector) and silver bottom with blue accent. Conservative, but, we like it. Hope to fly it home to FL soon...before heavy snow hits Michigan!

Oh it looks good, I like how it subtly wraps on the wing tips.

So what do you got left on this build ? Just the painting part , FAA certs and then ready to rumble ?

Thanks Warmi. The saying is "90% done, 90% to go". Clear coat paint is done. Next is N-number graphic, re-connect flight controls, install the interior pieces, avionics connections, canopy, prop, pants, a many other little things. Then FAA sign-off/airworthiness certificate and first flight. Midwest Sky Sports pilot will fly first 4 or 5 hours of test flights. Then I will receive flying lessons (maybe in their Sling simultaneous with my Sling test flights??)and complete 40 hour fly-off. 2-3 more weeks to first flight?

Well, 2 or 3 weeks more is nothing given the original starting point ..yet, they will probably seem some of the longest ones ever hehe ...

By the time you get it back to Florida, you’ll have more hours than I have on my Sling and that’s with a flight cross country. LOL. Weather has put a damper on flying here in the NE. Can’t wait, hope you can still stop by on the way down.

I am trying to decide on black N-number with silver shading or navy blue with silver shading...I am leaning toward black...any opinions? My Sling is on the left with blue N-numbers photo-shopped on.

Same as the stripe color.

My SportCruiser is the same colors as your Sling. White, blue and silver. I replaced all my boring black exterior placards in the blue with a silver drop shadow and I think they look great and they match the paint colors on the plane.

Cant wait to see this thing in person.

You've already got 3 colors. That's enough.
