Stuff happens!!!!!!

Sport aviation is growing rapidly. But the new sport pilot / light-sport aircraft rules are still a mystery to many flight schools and instructors. To locate a flight school offering sport pilot training and/or light-sport aircraft rentals, click on the "Flight School And Rental Finder" tab above. This is a great place to share ideas on learning to fly, flight schools, costs and anything else related to training.

Stuff happens!!!!!!

Post by yozz25 »

A few weeks back, the chief CFI indicated he put some more oil in the Remos.

So ready to go, engine check and run up, oil pressure all over the place.

Brought back to hanger, guys look at it, drain some oil, then say it's ok, try again, still pressure no good, then tire goes flat.

Waste of time. Stuff happens.

Today, had appointment at 7 AM, CFI did not show up, I rousted him via phone out of bed, he showed up, but said we only have an hour. Since he as flight at 9. Went to prep plane. but it was ridiculous, 8:15 already, need to get back at 9 Am. I said screw it.

To boot, they had me down for 7 AM flight and charged me 75 bucks for not taking out plane. Not my fault and I assume they will remove the charge.

When does the school say, look we screwed you, the planes should have been in good order, the CFI should have showed up, take a few hours on us, you are a good cash paying loyal custumer? Gee, would'nt that be nice.?

Again waste of time, stuff happens. When does someone on the teaching side or school side take some responsibility to make sure the planes are in good order, and the CFI's show up on time? I get penalized if I don't show up, shouldn't they, perhaps I should get 10 bucks for my time to play blackjack at the casino?

Ah, what the hey, life is fun, then you die.

In my former life, there obviously would be no charge for "no show" on the airplane.

You would receive 1 hour of free instructor time on your next dual flight.

Aircraft mechanical aborts are unavoidable. Instructor should be avoidable.

As you would not be billed for the free instructor hour,
he would also not be paid.

The funny thing is that the scheduling and billing run on a system that has a life of itself.

In retrospect, after getting in the shop after the 7AM deadline, I logged into system, this is what you have to do on your own, and cancelled 7AM flight and then re-scheduled to 8AM, it comes in hour blocks, but you have to take at least 2 hours, other wise it does not make sense.

Voila, 75 buck charge pops up!!!!!! I say, "take this off", both CFI and office clerk have constipated look, i.e, they can't, system has it's own life.

Then CFI says to me, I have good news for you, I'll tell you outside.

Being the NYC wiseass I am, I say, "what can you possibly tell me, that I won the lottery"?

He tells me that there were past billing problems and that I may be in perhaps a third of an hour in flight time. At the time I didn't put it together, checked my bills at home, saw all was ok, and then bang, it hit me, he is trying to cover his ass. He doesn't want boss to know he showed up late, pissed off a client, and today he is scheduled to take up office manager for a few hours in Remos.

This guy is an operator, he is trying to keep his job and will try to get office manager to erase this charge and keep it away from the eyes of his boss.

I'm not angry that he didn't show up, stuff happens, but I am pissed that he is trying to fool me. But nevertheless, my time is precious also and I do believe that half the effort of success in any job is to show up before time and don't try to BS a person who has been around the block a few times.

To be quite honest, at this flight school, I should get the royal treatment, i.e.,let the chief CFI, who I consider a very good instructor, but is now in admininstrative capacity, take over my case and get me the ticket.

So, I'm heading back to Scottsdale this week, to support the Arizona economy, nothing political, they just have good cheap deals there.
