Sport Pilot License 'Types'

Sport aviation is growing rapidly. But the new sport pilot / light-sport aircraft rules are still a mystery to many flight schools and instructors. To locate a flight school offering sport pilot training and/or light-sport aircraft rentals, click on the "Flight School And Rental Finder" tab above. This is a great place to share ideas on learning to fly, flight schools, costs and anything else related to training.

Sport Pilot License 'Types'

Post by TenSeven »

Once you decide that Sport Pilot is the type of flying you want to do, is the training for Sport Pilot generic, meaning, do you first need to decide what type of aircraft, say, fixed wing or gyro, that you want to fly or is the Sport Pilot part of the training for either one, the same but with the additional training specific to the type of aircraft you want to fly.

eyeflygps wrote:The Sport Pilot training will obviously be specific to the type aircraft you are being trained in. Then, presumably, you would take your flight test in that same type aircraft. Once you have a Sport Pilot certificate, I believe it is pretty simple to add a different type aircraft to your Sport Pilot certificate by taking flight instruction with one CFI and then taking an endorsement ride with a second CFI. Of course, you would need to meet all the Sport Pilot experience requirements for the type aircraft you are adding.

Thanks

For details on adding new category and class privileges under Sport pilot rules, see my free EAA webinar at the archives: eaa.org/webinars.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.
