I compared some of https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/te ... ange_1.pdf and https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/te ... 081-29.pdf and the differences that I was able to see other than obvious ones like multiengine stuff (X) and night operations (XI) was that everything in "VIII. Basic Instrument Maneuvers" and "VI. Navigation B. Navigation Systems and Radar Services" was missing from the sport one. The two documents are in different layouts and that makes manually comparing them tedius.

True. The FAA has been systematically converting all Practical Rest Standards to Airman Certification Standards, but hasn't gotten to Sport Pilot yet.

Yes, there are some Areas of Operation that are common to SP and PP, and others that are unique to each. But they are largely content differences, rather than format differences.

The main difference between the two formats is that a PTS is more restrictive of what a DPE can include (for example, in the present thread, we've already said that the DPE must choose one of the three ground reference maneuvers. In an ACS, its more likely to say something like "in Area of Operation A, choose Task 1, and one or more other tasks." (That gives the DPE more discretion.)
