Hello.

I am in Bucks County PA and have always wanted to learn to fly. Sport Pilot certification is exactly what I am looking for. Can anyone recommend an instructor? The closest airports to me are Doylestown, Van Sant, and Sky Manor in NJ.

Thanks and can't wait to start flying and having fun. -Joe

Being from Florida I can't help you with the instructor, but welcome to the boards.

Welcome!!! I'm a student sport pilot from Northern NJ and hopefully will get back into flight training someday. The last time I flew was in January 2010.

There is a flight school at Trenton Airport, NJ called Royal Karina Air Service that just started its SP program in August 2010. I'm not so sure what LSA they have but give them a call. Just google Royal Karina Air Service and I believe that it'll take you to its home page.

Good Luck!!!

Welcome, Joe. It's always good to see new members and new pilots.

Where in Bucks County? I learned to fly (solo and xc) at Quakertown Airport - many, many moons ago. ;)

Thanks guys

Thanks guys-

I am in Solebury PA.

Looks like the closest to me is Vintage Aero Sports at Van Sant airport http://www.vintageaerosports.com. I paid them a visit. The instructor was not available, but I did get to see the airport and go into a hanger and check out/sit in the J-3 Cub they use for training. I still need to meet the instructor and learn about his experience and training plan. I like Van Sant, it's loaded with vintage aircraft and has a quaint feel about it. In addition, the J-3 Cub looks like it will be an easy plane to fly.

I called Royal Karina and have been playing telephone tag with the instructor Moses. I have to go and visit them, maybe today. I don't know what plane they have, they may only have the Cessnas listed on the website http://www.ireallywanttofly.com. If they don't have a LSA then that is a real minus in my book.

Thanks again - Joe

Actually they do have an LSA. I think it's some kind of Storm airplane. I think Royal Karina Air Service and American AeroSports are kind of the same thing.

Here's the link:

If it's not too far, Joe, do check out AB Flight at the Queen City airport, Allentown. http://www.abflight.com/ Art Tarola has a pair of SportStars on the line - I've seen one of them, a Max IFR, and it's beautifully equipped. (Art is also a Designated Pilot Examiner -- he gives my students their checkrides).

Went to Royal Karina Air Service-and went up!

N918KT you are correct, Royal Karina Air Service http://www.ireallywanttofly.com/ and American AeroSports http://www.americanaerosports.com/ are same company.

I paid them a visit yesterday and went for a quick flight in the Storm, pictured on the American AeroSports page ;-)

The visit was great. RK looks like a well run organization. A student was taking his IFR verbal , and another was taking out a 172 with an instructor. Moses, the owner, who took me up in the Storm is very enthusiastic and positive about flying. I went armed with the questions Paul Hamilton has on his site, http://sport-pilot-training.com/sport-p ... ant-start/ and received positive, informative answers to all without hesitation.

Royal Karina has been training PP for a while and just started SP so the syllabus is still under development. They will be using a customized Gleim Sport Pilot kit. http://www.gleim.com/products/productde ... =SP+KIT+SO By customized, Moses indicated that he would be substituting things like a better log bog, plotter, computer, and his syllabus.

RK has three instructors, I don't recall all of the details but they have high hours and one flew for Continental.

More about the flight. I had a lot of questions about the LSA so Moses took me out to see it. After asking about maintenance, engine, flight controls, safety, construction, we did a complete pre-flight. After completing the pre-flight Moses said lets fly. I sat in the left seat and was able to take the stick after we reached altitude and left the 5 mi. radius of the airport. The Storm is very responsive, some controls are via rod and some by cable, it also has electric trim and flaps.

RK was the second flight school I visited and left me feeling good about obtaining a SP.

If you are in Central NJ or Eastern PA I would check them out.

drseti thanks for the tip on AB Flight

I have not had a chance to venture up to Allentown. AB Flight is a little over an hour away via google maps. The two I visited so far are 20 mins. from me.
