Hello all, I'm Duane and I'm a future Sport Pilot living in Fairfield, CA. I'm hoping to start flying in the next six months, so I thought start looking for an instructor. There aren't many FBOs with LSAs in my immediate area, so I'm hoping that by lurking I'll learn something.

Welcome to the forum, Duane. I wish you success in finding an LSA and flight instructor. You might drive up to Nut Tree airport and post a notice on one of their bulletin boards. Also, if you have access to the base, you might want to ask around at the Travis Flying Club.

Good luck, and enjoy your journey.

Safe skies,
Paul

Hi Duane. There are not many LSAs here in SC, so I understand if you're feeling frustrated. I'm learning in a 1946 Aeronca Champ. Although it's not what I had in mind for training, it's a delight to fly...once off the ground.

Keep us posted on your progress.

That's exactly what I started in, Horatio. Of course, back then, it was only 15 years old, not the antique it (and I) are now! If you can learn in a Champ (or a Chief, or Cub, or T-craft, or Luscombe), you can fly anything.

Terry Miller is spoken highly of and works out of Lodi. I know it's a long way, but maybe he can work something out. He trained a pilot at Yolo County Airport.

Let me know if you'd like to go for a ride in a Flight Design CTSW.

Horatio,

When you say "SC" you mean Socal. Right?

I am in Yuma for a few months and I want to fly.

Any leads?

Thank you for the replies. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern CA.

Jim, I believe I've talked with Terry in the past, when I wasn't quite as serious as I'm getting now. I will call him.

Thanks again,

Duane
