Here's the Experimental/Amateur-Built authorization I assume is still in effect. I agree that due to the importance of tourism, the Bahamas will probably allow LSA and/or SP without individual authorization long before Canada or Mexico will. I've just not seen anything official regarding it and woul...

I have seen the letter blanket-authorizing Experimental/Amateur-Built aircraft in the Bahamas, but forgot to bookmark it.

Do you have a link to that for S-LSA? What about E-LSA?

I also assume these must be flown by a Private Pilot?

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, Bob, but neither the Sport Pilot certificate nor the Light Sport Aircraft airworthiness certificate meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements for international flights. As I understand it, each trip requires a case-by-case approval from ...

Here's another I don't want to go through the hassle to find out and then be at some doctor's mercy . All I want is to learn to fly in someone else's J-3 Cub off a grass strip the way it was done years ago, and then rent the same for good weather flights around the local area. I'm certainly healthy ...

Thank you for the enlightenment on Recreational Pilot, Tom. I had not looked into it too far because of the medical. That's why many of us would go Sport Pilot in the first place. The airfield at which I plan to learn believes in the Recreational Pilot certificate . Note that all three licenses star...

It was intended to bring ultralight fliers under FAA control. Should that perhaps be worded "those flying ultralights overweight?" Were there any changes for FAR 103-compliant flying (besides the loss of the training exemption)? Reading the history of SP/LSA, the original weight limits we...

The only thing I've seen published that AOPA's petitioned regarding SP/LSA is driver's license medical for recreational pilot and removing the Sport Pilot "Catch 22." FAA has turned that down before. The 25 mile limit misinformation is probably someone's assumption that if recreational pil...

Favorite/Best Prices On-Line Stores

Looking for some recommendations of sources for charts and other flying necessities. For example, for boating, West Marine has the best selection, but by far the highest prices. Defender stocks many of the same items for 20-30% less and provides great service.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions, all! Keep 'em coming! Jim, I forgot to mention I have the Cincinnati sectional and TAC on the way. Your other items are on my list for the next order. Thanks! That E6B is pretty cool and compact! I have a plotter for doing nautical chart navigation, where wind and current...

Moe- welcome to the bunch! Question: why did you chose to go Sport Pilot and not a full Private Pilot? Good question, Tom. First, it's unnecessary expense to fly a Cub. I don't sail at night and don't plan to fly at night either. I intend to acquire the knowledge required of a private pilot before ...

DIY "Ground School"

I've decided to try self-schooling for SP ground school. Here are the "texts" I've downloaded: 14 CFR parts 1, 61, 67, and 91 From the FAA: Student Pilot Guide Aeronautical Information Manual w/Change 1 AC 00-6A, Aviation Weather How to Obtain a Good Weather Briefing General Aviation Pilot...

Hello from Dayton!

I'm Moe and I'm a nostalgia nut. I own a Harley and an Airstream, and learned Morse Code for my ham license. For many years, every time I've seen a little yellow Cub, I've dreamed of flying one. In the past few years, with my spare time busy sailing, I've said flying looked like something I wasn't g...
