RC plane fun...on steroids!
You may have seen this. Not a good day for the future of manned aircraft. The pilot is on the endangered list it seems. This little 4 minute Boeing video is really something.... a first for a full size jet airplane. Thousands of planes that were grave yard bound, with costs in the hundreds of millio...

Re: Light Sport Girl
FREE discovery flights around the USA? Maybe not a profit motive, but some motive there. Note the video was good quality with editing decent editing. The sound at engine start up was not a Rotax. It was dubbed. In spite of the above..... Why not take a free Discovery Flight. Just watch out any catch...

Re: Motorglider vs LSA
I looked into this myself once. Pipisterl makes one, there may be others. Not IFR however. It can qualify as an LSA with the prop pitch for reduced speed. See: http://www.pipistrel-usa.com/models/sinus.html Please note: Speed performance is restricted and the in flight adjustable propeller disabled t...

Re: Open Airplane
I haven't enrolled but know that the local FBO (Mid Island Air Service at KISP) is part of the program. They are offering discounts for prepaid blocks of time. However I haven't checked to see if the same local rates apply to Open Airplane. The concept a single checkout for multiple FBO's is not ori...

if only it were slower
Anyone see this new plane? Unfortunately too fast to be a US LSA but it is advertised as an Italian Ultralight. They even compare it to a Tecnam 2002 on one of their webpages. This demonstrates how the LSA rules contrain designers. Maybe they will come out with a model tat is slower. The Lighting is...

Re: APRS Automatic Packet Reporting System
When you mention FCC license you failed to note an Amateur Radio License. Congratulations Dave. I will look for you on the air.
The test is easy and should be able to be passed by any pilot with a little study. Just noting your omission.

Re: Tight Pattern...
I liked the video, My first 16 hours of flight and solo were in a J3 as shown in the video. No flaps or any bells & whistles tail dragger. We always picked the touchdown point in I and I had to make it power-off from there. I still fly that way. At my home airport I cannot believe how far out gu...

THE FROZEN CRABS AND THE BLONDE STEWARDESS
A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde stewardess to take care of them for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning in ...

Re: Six seats, under 6000lb, day/night VFR on driver's licen
Some in Congress decided to take the driver's license medical proposal out of FAA's hands since they dragged feet on it so long... http://www.aopa.org/....aspx?CMP=ADV:1 It's like a wish list for sport pilots and guys worried about their medical. I tried the link above and it was broken. Anyone hav...

AOPA Posted my kids picture
My son submitted a photo to the AOPA Facebook page. His memory is a little off. The picture is at KISP we later moved to KHWV. Peter is 34 years old now. Peter holds a SP ticket today. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151750069916669&set=a.10150145414901669.287329.94193956668&type=1...

Re: What is good, bad or interesting about Tecnam LSAs?
Summer time in the Sierra. All of the bubble canopy types can get very hot on while on the ground. The advantage of the sliding canopy on the Sierra is that you can taxi with the canopy open. We used to prop open the canopy with a seat cushion or book on the forward hinged canopy planes. Many of tho...

Re: What is good, bad or interesting about Tecnam LSAs?
I’ve flown both Eaglets & Sierras. Have about 30 hours in each. I prefer the Sierra. I also have time in SportCrusers. I have flown several different Sierras including the one at CSP @ W29. I now fly out of KHWV. I love the plane. Nice handling and better balanced controls than the SportCruiser ...

Re: FCC Radio License Application
Deregulation was a good thing. I remember when all pilots required a radio license as well as the aircraft. Remember the acronym ARROW., today it is just AROW. The missing R was for the aircraft radio license. I remember my instructor (circa 1968) told me I needed to get a restricted radio telephone...
