Re: EAA AirVenture 2024

Make a plan for your day, because you will not be able to see and do everything you want. I normally spend the week, and don't see everything.

Re: Glider --> Sport Pilot vs. Sport Pilot --> Glider ?

As a commercial pilot, I did the SP glider add-on training years ago in a motor glider, and got the CFI sign-off after only 5 hours of dual. The problem is, I never found a second CFI-G willing to provide a motor glider and give me the SP proficiency check. If you (as an airplane SP or above) can l...

Re: Glider --> Sport Pilot vs. Sport Pilot --> Glider ?

First off it can be done in less flight time. A minimum of10 hours for glider private pilot and 20 for sport pilot airplane initial. In my opinion the transition from glider to airplane will be a little easier than the other way around, especially if you do it in a motorglider. Second you will have ...

Re: TL Ultralight Stingsport

Advisory Circulars are not regulatory. The FAA person's problem is he was siting from CFR 43.3 which says who can perform maintenance, but he forgot to look at CFR 43.1 which shows applicability of part 43. CFR 43.1 says that part does not apply to an ELSA which previously geld a SLSA certificate. T...

Re: Glider --> Sport Pilot vs. Sport Pilot --> Glider ?

If you have access to a motor glider I would do private pilot glider. 10 hours in a glider, (motor glider is okay) 20 flights, and 2 hours solo. Knowledge test and practical test. Your self launch endorsement would be part of the training. Then do a sport pilot airplane add on. You will find it hard...

Re: TL Ultralight Stingsport

He is partly correct. The LSRI doesn't any maintenance privileges, only inspection privileges. That may have been where he was coming from. You are correct in that there are no special certificates required to maintain or repair an aircraft with an experimental airworthiness certificate. I always sa...

Re: 2 blade vs 3 blade propeller

Dave C wrote: Tue May 14, 2024 9:31 am If that is true I wonder why most LSAs come equipped with 3 bladed propellers. Why is that?
Because takeoff and climb performance are more important than speed for a LSA. Also in my opinion three blade propellers tend to run smoother that two blade propellers.

Re: Rotax 912 ULS Resale value

I have had a couple that were not economically repairable. When they are like that there is wear and damage on the gears. From a pilot standpoint you probably wouldn't be able to tell anything, but from a mechanic standpoint you can visibly see the damage once the gearbox is apart. Heavy propellers ...

Re: Rotax 912 ULS Resale value

I have one I need to get listed for a customer. It is right around 1000 total time 15 years old. The gearbox inspection is due. We are going to start with an asking price of $5500.
