Handshake between ATCs

I got this question because of MH370. I still hope a miracle. As stated by regulation, once a flight plan is activated, it is pilot duty to close by calling FAA, or FAA would call local law enforcement to knock my door at the destination of that flight plan. I've never done a ATC transition, the que...

I think only pepole with sport pilot certificates from both countries, say US and Canada, can fly internationaly. There is an euivalent fly certificate in Canada, called super mirco or something; no class 3 medical is required, but home doctor needs to sign some forms to certify an individual fit fo...

I got my SP ticket in P92; it's a very nice plane, it's seat is higher than CT, SportStar, so the view is much better than those two.

For controls, you really need positive input to make it to know what you want and need hard foot work to make a coordinate turn.

two more cents:

if possible, try to take more discovery flights with different schools; I spent at least 500 buck flew with 4 schools and talked to a dozen.

My standard is simple, finding someone who has the ability to take me back to ground safely. Talking on the phone could reveal some truth too.

I wouldn't fly with this guy

I turned down a flight school because of lack of preflight, the young instructor actually missed wheel stopper while he was going to taxing out. The school/ instructor I chose conducted a very thorough preflight with me, though the discovery itself was not very comfortable to me at the time; the rea...

stall horn is set to be 3-5 knots higher than actual stall

it's a warining; stall happens when pitch sinks, most trainers designed this way.

Toward the end of my training, I could do all my slow flight with stall horn on, I did it even at my checkride.

Gyroplane Sport Pilot

I'm wondering what the rules are for a sport pilot to be qualified for gyroplane flying. there are two issues: 1. there is NO ready to fly gyroplane in US market, to get train in one, which is only ELSA, I have to own one, is it right? 2. the qualified CFI are quite few. However, gyros are really co...

Is it clear said in FAR that a SP flys to another country need a writtern authourization from that country?

Upon reentering US territory, how can a SP pass ADIZ having no flight plan without inviting two F16s' escort?

Different bussiness

IMHO, any A-10 "student" pilot has at least 250+ hours in his/her belt, moreover, they've already learnt how to fly in basic formation.

Is it a market trick or real?

I saw there is a retractable landing gear in A5; correct me if I'm wrong, SP can only fly fix landing gear planes.

know you plane well

You need know your plane well, read POH carefully, including all the notes in it; you need do some weight and balance practice, give yourself some reasonable number, say your weight, fuel, etc; also, practice takeoff and landing distance calculation, density altitude; knowledge test is a good guidel...

Differneces from real flying

I didn't use simulation during training since my instructor didn't like it. I logged about 35 hours with FSX after I got my license. There are two major differences between real flying and simulation. 1. the view is much limited in a simulator than a real plane; this is a reason that my instructor d...

supplement reading

I'd suggest two FAA publications: Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge and Airplane Flying Handbook they all can be downloaded http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/ I believe all questions are from these two books; for sport pilot, you only need to read some chapters not a...

New Sport Pilot

I passed sport pilot check ride yesterday morning. I confess that I had doubt if I could do it, but eventually, I made it. I know this is a starting point of real flying, I may upgrade to Private in the future. I started mid October; I statyed about 10 days, didn't make solo that time; I went back o...

I think we are in the same boat

I have thyroid issues though it is totally under control; my specialist even let me try to get rid of drugs; medically, I'm doing very well. As I'm passing sport checkride in the next couple days, I'm facing the same dilemma. I do want to have a PPL, but the risk is there, a reject means not flying ...
