Rick, I had my first PPL training flight in a 172R this past weekend. It went great! No trouble transitioning to either yoke or heavier aircraft. It should just be a matter of getting the time in that I need. Good luck!

Rick, I passed my SP check ride this past August. Keeping in mind I fly recreationally, and there's a local flight school with an LSA, it took me right at a year to get there, and a SPL was my original goal. I have since decided to continue my training to the PPL level. The usual things were involve...

Everyone is different of course..... But I did the same thing last year. I had 35 hours in and was just about ready to check out. Then I had some surgery on my foot that kept me out of training for 4 months. Just like ridin' a bike. Took and passed my check ride with 39 hours.

HKS Charging System

Anyone have any experience with an HKS engine charging system? I have one that is only charging around 12.5 volts at cruise RPM and i think it should be more like 14 volts. I think I'm gonna replace the voltage regulator as a maintainance item (almost 600 hours on it) and see if that helps. Any othe...

I also fly a Sportstar and use the Bose A20 headset. It works flawlessly. As oldsportpilot says, it turns the engine noise into a low hum. I also find that you can still detect subtle changes in the engines sound.

Take a look at the Earthstar Thunder Gull and Odessey, single and two seaters respectively. My father inlaw has owned both. He really loved the Gull as a single, very sporty relatively speaking. He currentley has an Odessey and loves it also. They both offer great visibility. I have flown the Odesse...

An old pilot friend of mine always says " When the day comes that you are faced with an inflight emergency, you want to be sure you have no idea what caused it. The same is true of the parts you make when you are building an aircraft. If when finished with a particular part, you look at it and ...

I'm headed down on Thursday from Ohio. Rain or not the weather has to be better than what we've been having this winter. Looks like it's supposed to clear up just after I get there :D

Thanks for the help! I found the current regs online at the FAA site. Gee,....who would have thought my new set of Gleim books would have a FAR/AIM with outdated regs. :(

OK , I think these are the 2 regs. that deal with this question. FAR 61.317 Is my sport pilot certificate issued with aircraft category and class ratings? Your sport pilot certificate does not list aircraft category and class ratings. When you successfully pass the practical test for a sport pilot c...

Re: Question: .....

My father in-law owns an E-SLA. He talked me into, OK he didn't have to twist my arm all that hard, getting my LS certificate and I started lessons in August. Will I be able to legally fly his E-SLA and if so, is it as simple as getting an endorsement for his plane from an instructor? If its the sa...
