Re: New SP rules I have Q's

What new Sport Rule? What are you trying to do? If you want to fly other than LSA, you need to get a Private Certificate. If you want to fly at night or without the Sport Pilot weather restrictions, you need to get a Private License. As a Sport Pilot, the PBORII has no effect on anything with or wi...

New SP rules I have Q's

Hi Folks, Forgive me if this has been beaten to death, if so, perhaps someone could direct me to the link......But, I am presently a SP for the last 5 years. Like many, I really didn't want to be bothered every 2 years with a medical. But since the new "rule" went in to effect, I've decide...

Re: Renewal: DL, MCL & SPL $70 :)

Yep, knew that, have already been through 1 BFR. Was really only speaking to the hassle free aspects of keeping the drivers license medical up to date. I actually enjoy my BFRs. I like flying with instructors. Can always learn something from those folks!

Renewal: DL, MCL & SPL $70 :)

Just wanted to register a big Thank You to everyone who has participated in the origination and continuance of Sport Pilot licensing. As I renewed my drivers license yesterday (literally a 10 minute process that cost me a total of $70 for a 5 year time frame) I couldn't help but realize that I had j...

Re: Radio Calls .....UGH!

Looks like this fella has made the decision to quit. I totally understand the feeling and i think most of us who have been through it had our own versions of "wanting to quit" either because of the cost or some aspect of the skill set that didnt come easily to us. Too bad, he will never kn...

Re: Planes you have flown

I only have 135 hours tt, but.....ill post anyway cause ive flown 3 different planes, two versions ofthe Evektor, a Tecnam P2002 and most recently checked out in a Sting Sport. The Evektor is my favorite overall except for some weird electrical issues. As far as flying goes, it is one very sweet, fu...

Re: Who holds only a SP Certificate?

Sport pilot, that's it. Probably will be my last and only rating. I'm not interested in flying in bad weather or at night, and certified aircraft aren't of much interest to me. Nice not ever having to worry about a medical. The sport pilot rule, along with the Evektor Sportstar were a combo I just h...

Re: How to become a Sport Pilot

I'm coming late to this thread. But I applaude the straight forward approach to this subject. There were so many "downs" to go along with the "ups" in my case, that this undertaking became THE most difficult undertaking that I ever undertook. Without the acknowledgment of this as...

Re: checkride friday

You'll do fine. If you are comfortable flying, that part will be fine. The examiner will probably want to see you look up something in the book, just to demonstrate you can use it so maybe you should consider looking up something that he asks about even though you know the answer. That way you don't...

Re: How much time?

Took 60 for me. But I fly in class c, d and through class b. I received instruction in all 3 airspaces at 3 different airports with 5 different instructors. Perhaps overkill, but I felt I wanted to be sure I knew what I was doing, given all the complicated airspace around here. I think the prescript...

I've used several models of the lightspeed including the first gen Zulus. Although they are all good, I kept my sierras as they seemed to work the best and had the best ability to adapt to various radio systems in the rentals I fly. The sierras had a dependable interface that seemed less sensitive t...

Don't know if you've taken your check ride yet. But I took mine on a pretty crappy day with rain squals and moderate cross winds. Worked out very well for me as I had to demonstrate nearly all the maneuvers in real conditions. The landings were given some lee way due to the winds. All in all, the we...

I think the financial crunch will accelerate their deliberations. I look for them to accept this within a couple of years. Things have changed, savings on admin costs now matters. Welcome to the new normal, in this case it could benefit us.

I'm late to the party on this thread, but I'm 53 and just got my SPL in March '11. Was it worth it? Would I get my PPL now instead? YES and NO. I've been hanging around airplanes my entire life and have had many opportunities to learn to fly but there was absolutely nothing about a Cessna 152 that m...

Ive flown twice this month, for a total of about $385. I'll probably fly once mor for a grand total of about $600 for the month. I'm sport rated and rent. No matter how I slice it, I figure it would cost nearly twice that to own a comparable sport aircraft. I figure renting also allows me to transit...
