Re: AVweb Video on Vashon Ranger + Aviation Consumer Article
Let me preface my comments below by saying I have never (to my knowledge) flown any of my planes over gross and do not plan to. With that said, over the years that I have spoken with many salespeople representing S-LSA aircraft, I have noticed that for aircraft that are available in other countries ...

Re: AVweb Video on Vashon Ranger + Aviation Consumer Article
Will be interesting to see which plane does better in the marketplace the Vashon or the Rans. I would think the Vashon may retain its price advantage as the manufacturing costs are most likely lower then the Rans. The S-21 is not LSA, gross weight is 1800 and empty almost 1000lb. Actually the S-21 ...

Re: AVweb Video on Vashon Ranger + Aviation Consumer Article
Perhaps what is new is made in the USA, high wing and metal. I am not aware of any other prior high wing metal LSA made in the USA until now with the S-21 from Rans and the R7 from Vashon. I lived in the Seattle area for 10 years, however I was not flying then myself but flew with others around Puge...

AVweb Video on Vashon Ranger + Aviation Consumer Article
Good and interesting AVweb video, by Paul Bertorelli, on the Vashon Ranger that complements the article in Aviation Consumer. FAA register already shows 5 Rangers in production. Hard to imagine if there is any future for the Glasair Merlin being built just up the road in Arlington WA that is now ove...

Re: Skycatcher par deux
If you review the Website you will see they are stressing the American made angle, from airframe to avionics to engine and propellor and all made of metal. Perhaps the RV12 or Cub crowd may find this aircraft attractive. Will be interesting to see how many of the 5 planes they bring to Oshkosh they ...

Looks like a Skycatcher Mark II, complete with Continental O200 Engine, except for the wing struts......

Deland 2017
Did anybody attend Deland this year and how was it? Still not sure why we need to have two shows within a couple of months of each other in South Florida.

Re: Is sport aviation dying
In my case I previously owned a 2011 DA40-XLS but was flying it on a Special Issuance and several years ago decided to let my medical lapse as the required yearly medical tests where getting too costly and burdensome, relegating me to flying with friends who where also CFI's. In December 2016 the DA...

Looking for next plane - is a C162 a good option
Recently sold our 2011 DA40-XLS and I am now looking for next my next plane. Decided to go the S-LSA route. Looking at CTLS/CTLSi, Tecnam P2002, RV12 amongst others. Some of you may recall I once had a deposit on a C162 Skycatcher but cancelled the order when Cessna jacked up the prices. Just spoke ...

Is raising the S-LSA gross weight a priority for EAA?
Just returned from the 2017 Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring. While in conversation with one of the major S-LSA vendors, at Expo, I was told that now that both BasicMed and the Part 23 rewrite are done that according to Jack Pelton the next priority for the EAA is getting the gross weight of S-LSA's i...

Re: 2017 Expo
Planning to fly in on Friday morning and leave in the evening. Have just read the NOTAM and while I realize that Sebring is not Oshkosh can anybody give any advice on how busy Sebring tends to be and how difficult it is landing there? Thank you in advance.

Dearth of used S-LSA's for sale
It appears to me that compared to a short while ago there seems to be a scarcity of used S-LSA's for sale. I am trying to help a friend locate an appropriate S-LSA and I noticed that on the major listing sites like Controller, ASO, Trade-a-Plane and Barnstormers there does not appear to be many plan...
