Re: ICAO flight plan format

The changes don't really affect me, since I have filed a flight plan exactly never since flight school. With ELTs, PLBs, ADS-B, flight following, etc...can anybody explain to me the value of having a VFR flight plan? Maybe crossing a big desert or flying across Alaska it might make sense, but mainly...

Re: That’ll get your attention!

I have a John Deere regulator sitting on the shelf in my hangar for the day my Ducati finally dies. I'm glad you've had a good experience with it Eddie. What did you do to connect the two spades that go into one terminal on the Deere, did you just get a splitter connector? EDIT: Nevermind, I see the...

Re: Rotax burping sound

As a data point, if burped from cold, 30 blades is not unusual for my Sky Arrow. Even having just run, probably 10 to 15 is average. Why burp the engine if it has just run? Mine always has oil on the flat of the dipstick ("Acceptable range") if the engine is warm. I check the stick and on...

You are also in the position with a pusher that if something is truly amiss you don't get the smoke, burning smell, or oil streaking on the windshield to clue you in...

Re: Sting Sport down in Florida

From Kathryn's Report: "In a written statement, the pilot stated he was in cruise flight when he received an ADS-B traffic alert via a commercial application he had running on his smartphone. The traffic approached from his one o'clock position and closed at "a high rate of speed." Ac...

Regardless of cause, this is a compelling example of the value of a ballistic parachute. In this case a non-survivable event was converted to a minor injury by appropriate use of the parachute system.

I use the Ice Spray Wax everywhere, including the windows. It’s polymer based so it doesn't yellow, and it does a great job on skins and plexiglass.

IPad internal GPS has been dead nuts reliable for me. It’s never dropped connection or lost positional accuracy.

If that’s a Lancair, you’d better stay proficient. Many have come to grief in them, they do not have “docile” stall/spin characteristics...

Re: My ADSB in solution

The GPS attached to the Stratux is only necessary for it's AHRS feature to work. Stratux will supply traffic and weather info even if your EFB is using some other source for GPS. Pete I have an iFly GPS, and when it sees the Stratux GPS is automatically uses that GPS instead of its internal GPS. Th...

My underatantding is if you are not in the puck of an out equipped aircraft you don't see any traffic, as none is transmitted.

Re: My ADSB in solution

Your transponder was showing up on primary radar and then that info was relayed to the ADS-B towers. You don't have to have OUT to show up, just a transponder. Weird that you only saw jets. Around here I see a lot of little guys at lower level, even before I had OUT. Maybe you were just in an empty ...

Re: Sirius TL-3000 wing removal at 200 hour intervals

It's not an unusual requirement, especially for composite airplanes. Composites have no yield strength and can't bend, so the typical failure mode is catastrophic failure. If you don't do it, how can you know the condition of the spars and their attach points to the airframe? How do you know if the ...

Re: The Sport Pilot Rating

Any airplane that can fly 100mph is perfectly capable of "going somewhere". At that speed You can go 800 miles in a day if you fly two four-hour legs...how far do you need to go to be "going somewhere" and not just jumping puddles? You can sometimes find Jabiru-powered Sonex airp...

With my plane, it’s almost impossible to bust the rear cg limit, even with a light pilot, heavy passenger and full fuel.
But still isn't the wing pretty far back on a Sky Arrow...?
