Re: Sportcruiser Tow bar
For my Sportstar I went to a local welding shop, gave him a sketch and dimensions and he made me one. I think I paid $30.

Re: Buying your own plane for training
When I took my check ride in a Piper Sport Cruiser I showed the examiner what the POH said about short field takeoffs.
4.12 Short field takeoff and landing procedures
None
He studied the POH for a bit and then said, "do one anyway."

Re: My week of flight training - Review of events
I have appreciated Cluemeister (and other's) posting their flight training experience, and I hope it will continue. I am also interested in the discussion of IFR training. I flew with 3 CFI's during my sportpilot training and there was never a word about any IFR experience. It didn't come up with th...

Re: GA hospitality (that's both General Aviation and Georgia
It certainly wasn't an ill wind that blew you into Reidsville (maybe that is a matter of perspective). I was surprised and delighted to hear that you were at our airport. I enjoyed our visit and the sharing of all things flying and university professing (not to be construed as confessing). To say th...

Re: Rotax and Dynon Service In Florida / Southern Georgia
There is a certified Rotax guy at Metter, GA about 70 miles west of Savannah, and one in Eufala, AL just across the Georgia line.

Re: Adventure iFly GPS
I have IFly 720, and I have I-Fly on my I-Phone. They have worked great, and given that I am electronically challenged setting them up was a piece of cake.

Fly In & Canoe
The Reidsville (Georgia) Airport authority is hosting a fly-in canoe trip down the Ohoopee River, one of Georgia's black water rivers June 6, 2015. The canoe rental is $30.00 per person. We will be on the river at 2:00 pm and expect a 2-3 hour trip. The river runs just off the end of the runway (KRV...

Fuel Stabalizer
From another forum. Any thoughts? "I use Stabil. I put it in my fuel drum when I fill it. This year at Sun & Fun Phil Lockwood brought it up and he said it works almost like magic to keep fuel fresh for almost a year. It forms a barrier on top of the fuel and keeps the lighter parts from ev...

Re: Ignition Modules
Initially there was what appeared to be a small amount of coolant on one of the spark plugs, which to them (I refer to the pair as "my guys" since we are developing that intimate relationship that can occur between an aircraft owner and an aircraft mechanic) diagnosed a cylinder head crack...

Re: Ignition Modules
Finally received my ignition modules and had them installed. On burping the engine, we turned it one cycle and it stopped dead. Coolant in one of the cylinders. I think I said something like, "My goodness, that is disappointing." The short version of the story is that having the plane sit ...

Ignition Modules
FastEddieB said, "I had just gotten my Sky Arrow back in the air with new ignition modules after extended down time." It seems there are lots of ignition module failures out there. According to reports on the Rotax Owner's page they seem to be failing particularly on the 06-07 vintage Rota...

Re: Just how much of the written did you actually learn?
As an old (in many senses of the word) test and measurement man it is my opinion that the practical test needs to be reworked. There are many poorly written questions; many questions that hammer away at trivial points; questions requiring antiquated tables for solutions (think back 40 years ago when...

Airports
As part of a project I'm doing for the airport authority of a small uncontrolled airport I'm interested in your opinion. My questions is, what makes an airport attractive as a destination? That is, putting aside anything that requires you to fly to a specific destination, what influences you to sele...
