Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
Well. It was a good idea but I just don't believe I can pull it off. If I had the means to buy an aircraft first, then I might be able to sell shares but that's out of reach for me. With no rental LSA's in town and no LSA clubs, I really won't have any flying options after I get my ticket so I think...

Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
I made some changes to the website. Removed dollar amounts so as not to scare anyone off and left the specifics to be determined by the prospective members.

Re: Sport Pilot or Private Pilot?
You are not likely to save a significant amount of money because it takes time to learn to fly any plane and I think with the high power to weight ratio it's harder in an LSA. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten the SI'S to get a medical but at what cost and hassle? Don't let the fact that you would...

Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
We'll just have to see what interest there is out there and for what.

Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
Jack, Although I expect my experience will be closer to the latter than the former of yours, what makes me think it might have a chance is that the owner of this field has carved out a little niche in the Sport Pilot market and there are basically no LSA flying options other than ownership. I hope t...

Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
Yes. I just looked at your intended airport. It looks like the plane you have chosen is more suited for that airport. You are verging on Ultralight vs LSA. That's OK. You have to start somewhere. You can probably cut my cost figures in half. I understand what you are saying, but those planes with a...

Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
From my research so far either an LLC or an INC would protect members from something of that description.
As far as a Remos, CT etc that could be a plan for a later addition but this one is to bring it to the "masses"

Re: Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
Thanks for the replies. A lot of good points there. I am checking out all the AOPA resources. As far as the decisions that have been made, this is all exploratory in nature and of course nothing written in stone, but I did want to present a plan. A lot of what I am considering is appropriate to the ...

Looking to start an experimental/sport flying club
In my area there is a lack of rental LSA's and no clubs that I know of, so I am trying to see if there is any interest.

Re: Pireps
How is the Aerotrek holding up as an instructional aircraft? And does your IP have any opinions on how its lighter weight affects training? A little more insight on the Aerotrek. I asked the CFI if it was harder to fly than something like a 172 He said "hands down." He said he has Cessna ...

Re: Home flight sims
Here's a (laughable) endorsement for sim training. The Barefoot Bandit stole a plane in Bloomington Indiana and flew all the way to the Bahamas before he crash-landed. His only flight experience was a Microsoft flight sim program. Makes me think about all the thousands I've spent so far on traditio...

Re: Home flight sims
I have been using sims extensively between lessons and would like to share a few thoughts. In regard to landing, sims are not very close to the real thing. The critical skill in landing is round-out and performing the flare and touchdown on the mains, a sim will let you land the plane with no probl...

Home flight sims
This forum is too quiet so I thought I'd spice it up a little. As I train for my sport cert I find myself hampered a bit by only being able to fly once a week. There are a lot of mixed opinions on home flight sims as a training aid, some people going as far saying they hurt rather than help. I have ...

How is the Aerotrek holding up as an instructional aircraft? And does your IP have any opinions on how its lighter weight affects training? Seems to be holding up well. Only once has it been unavailable and that was because he wanted to check out some possible damage from a large hailstorm. Turned ...

Re: Pireps
A little late to the party. Last lesson we took off from the Ultralight strip in Marana Az to shoot T&G's at KAVQ. Flying the Aerotrek 240, (Eurofox) for those who know it as that. AWOS said calm but that changed and we were confronted with a mild right crosswind. That element kind of screwed me...
