Re: Sport to PPL Requiremetns
There's only one light sport capable plane for rent in my area: the one I trained in! But I bought a Luscombe three years ago and solved that problem. I'm more interested in higher performance at this point, and there are more choices for ownership at lower prices in the certified market. Of course,...

Re: Sport to PPL Requiremetns
That's good to know. I'm considering the same path. What's been your motivation to pursue the PPL?

Ready to try for PPL
I have accrued about 250 hours total time now, and I'm seriously thinking about going for the PPL. Any advice? The 3rd class medical is the potential obstacle, but now that we have BasicMed for use in the future, I'm willing to take a chance.

Re: Cool!.....now what?
"Where" is being covered, as for the "what" part... if low and slow appeals to you, and as you're mechanically inclined, I'd suggest you consider (I'm not pushing this idea, only giving you something to chew on) an antique that fits the LSA definition. Taylorcraft BC-12s can be ...

Re: New milestone
Patience, grasshopper... Winter is coming and there will be times when a giant "H" will park itself right over your house and there will not be a cloud in the sky in a thousand mile radius for a week or so. Believe me - it will happen! Typically happens here when I'm at work, or have fami...

Re: New milestone
I still think those statistics mean the more hours you fly, the more you are exposed to the inherent risk of flying. You are gaining experience and becoming a better pilot, but maybe not as fast as you are racking up hours and exposing yourself to the potential dangers. As your experience and skill...

Re: New milestone
Looks like I've crossed the threshold for the most dangerous period! The next 50 hours will be critical, it seems.

Re: Class D, C endorsements - recommendations?
Good discussion. Thanks to all. I have better appreciation for nuances in the regs.
Got the endorsement for D. C is next. That will be interesting sans transponder.

Re: Class D, C endorsements - recommendations?
So, basically it's up to my CFI, and he says separate endorsements. We're doing Class D tomorrow. Now, for another twist. I received training 26 years ago at airports now classified as D and C. Would that count for anything? Many thanks. If that is how your instructor wants to do it, you don't have...

Yeah, TRSAs were cutting edge at the time, IIRC.Wm.Ince wrote:That sounds like Airport Traffic Areas and Control Zones? . . .Horatio wrote:. . . "I received training 26 years ago at airports now classified as D and C. Would that count for anything?

Re: Class D, C endorsements - recommendations?
If you'd like to head up to my neck of the woods, we could do a little trip up to Knoxville or over to Chattanooga for practice. My CFI certificate is expired, but I would not mind flying with you "for fun". Let me know. Thanks, Eddie. I may take you up on the offer. I'd love to see your ...

Re: How Do You Climb
Check out this dissertation regarding Vz, a climb speed that allegedly maximizes efficiency. http://www.seqair.com/benchmark/Howell/Norman.html Haven't tried it yet, but for my Luscombe Vz works out to about 90 mph. I know my Luscombe will climb at 85, especially when not quite trimmed for level fli...
