Re: MOSAIC
I'm looking forward to the myriad of aircraft that fit into the European ultralight category but are too fast, heavy or "complicated" for our LSA rules.

Woodcomp Overhaul
Looking at a Sportstar that has been derelict for at least 10 years at a local airport. In trying to estimate resurrection costs in order to decide on my offer, the one thing I don't have a handle on is the cost to overhaul the Woodcomp Klassic prop. Anyone recently have one overhauled? Did you ship...

Re: LSA rule changes
The NRPM will need to be published by around AirVenture to make the timeline for the end of 2023. However, some indications I've seen from AOPA interviews and a conference I was on gives me a feeling they're behind schedule. They've hooked a lot of issues on MOSAIC, some non-LSA specific line items ...

Re: Deaths
If a tower does not have radar installed at their location, then they are not responsible for separation services. We had a mid-air at KRNT a number of years ago, it was then I learned of this. While that tower does get a radar feed from KSEA, a few miles away, but the equipment is not at KRNT, they...

Re: Chute or Free Fall
So if a wing ( or any other crucial part ) falls off because of maintenance issues, just as it recently did in Florida, you just gonna die because you are a "no" guy ? That is literally a "one in a million" scenario. When you look at how many millions of flight hours the PA-28 a...

Re: Chute or Free Fall
I'm a "no" guy as well. I do wear a chute while flying aerobatics, but it would have to be a total loss of control or fire in order for me to use it. I'd much rather have control of the aircraft all the way to the ground as opposed to ride it in as a passenger. Secondary issues are weight,...

Re: E/AB buyers guide
To your original question about E-AB pre-buys, there is no real black and white answer. Some of them are built to a quality that far exceeds what factories put out, and some are barely hanging on. Each airplane, regardless if it's E-AB, ELSA, SLSA or TC, needs to be looked at closely. My Cub, which ...

Re: what can I use for a rental plane
As mentioned, SLSA is the only one that can easily be put in a rental fleet. I have seen Experimental-Exhibition and Experimental-Amateur Built get a Letter of Authorization from thier FSDO to provide training if they filled a specific niche. In those cases they were a Sukhoi SU-29 and Pitts Model 1...

Re: EAB vs E-LSA vs S-LSA
The only thing I would add to the conversation here is that one cannot take for sale adverts as gospel. Since there is a lot of confusion of what constitutes a LSA, often I see folks selling airplanes claiming they are LSA when they are not.
One has to review the paperwork to ensure they comply.

Re: Asking for Your Help
Thanks, John. I did that. NADA. So you did, may have been lost in all the Thanksgiving hubbub. I watch FATPNW pretty closely and I missed it too. Looking at the Department of Revenue site, I find three names associated with the club, which is still listed as active. Bruce Farrington There are two B...

If you're on Facebook, try inquiring in the Flights Above the Pacific Northwest (FATPNW) group. If you're not on FB, let me know and I can make the inquiry for you.

Not arguing for or against. Just making sure I’m understanding correctly. As I go for my CFI-S, I don’t want to steer people wrong.
