ELSA IFR/IMC

I picked up my new ELSA Bristell 914 on June 10, 2018 and flew it from Lancaster, PA to my home base KABQ. Put 90 hours on it the first year. Just finished doing my own annual and everything was great. The only issue was that the floats on the right carb were overweight, so I replaced them and filed...

Re: FAA Letter

John and Lou got the letter last week from the Czech Republic. I sent a copy to the FAA so hopefully I won't be hearing from them anytime soon. John and Lou had to fork over $100 for each letter. Those guys are great and as always, provide great customer service.

Re: FAA Letter

Sorry to get back on point, but I just talked to the dealer and he said the problem was the result of the FAA switching some of the responsibilities from the DAR to the FAA. I didn't fully understand what he told me, but he is clearly on top of the situation. The dealer is getting letters for all 40...

Re: FAA Letter

The plane was imported as a S-LSA and registered to the dealer as a S-LSA. A DAR did the conversion to ELSA while it was still owned by the dealer and all placards were properly installed (cost me $2K). The FAA knows that the plane was transferred to the dealer from the manufacturer as a brand new p...

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

Ordered my new Bristell on 11/2/2017 and just received notice that it is being loaded on a ship for delivery to Baltimore and then Lancaster. I thought I would update my post with a few photos. I hope the link works. Rick

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

The dealer has told me that as long as no modifications have been made, it can be converted back one time. To be honest it might be smart to order it as an ELSA and save the $2k +. The only buyer that would probably want it converted back would be a flight school.

Thanks.

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

They can, but it eliminates the possibility of converting back when you sell it.

Thanks for the input so far.

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

Looks like I've got my DA40 sold and I am getting ready to order a new Bristell. I'm going to get the turbo (KABQ is 5300 ft), full IFR panel and will convert it to an ELSA after delivery so I can fly in IMC and do my own maintenance. Do any of you have any recommendations/suggestions before I place...

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

Bristell is the one. I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Lancaster to fly the Bristell, SportCruiser and look at the Sting. I flew the Bristell Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. I flew the SportCruiser Thursday afternoon. I saw and sat in the Sting Thursday afternoon. The Sting belonged to...

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

Thanks for the info. ZAITCEV - Bonnie was my primary flight instructor and I've talked to her about her LSA. She's based at Moriarty. I want the climb rate and also to be able to cruise easily at 12,500. Some of the instrument approaches into Santa Fe require an altitude of at least 11,000. Mr. Mord...

Drew,

Just responded. I guess the board doesn't notify you of a PM.

Re: New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

Thanks so much for the comments so far. With any luck, I should be flying them (in Lancaster) three weeks from today. ct4me: The KLA-100 looks really cool, but I don't want to be a test pilot and I'm getting excited about getting a new plane, so I don't think I could wait. Paul: I did notice the low...

New LSA - Bristell, Sting S4, SportCruiser or ?

I'd like some help on making a decision on which new LSA to buy. I'm 69 years old, private pilot with instrument rating, third class medical, no known medical issues and about 1100 hours. My first plane was a 1998 172R and I currently own and fly a 2007 DA40 with a Garmin G1000 and GFC 700. I've dec...
