FAA changes to limited Issuance for Type 1 Diabetics using CGM and Insulin Pumps
Recently the FAA issued information about a 15 year study of Type 1, Insulin Dependent, diabetics and the use of Constant Glucose Monitoring, CGM, and insulin pumps. Basically the FAA stated that someone using CGM and an insulin pump could be granted special issuance for all classes of medical certi...

Re: Paperwork required to convert SLSA to ELSA
Well both Dynon and Garmin sell quality products for both experimental and certified aircraft. I think the biggest difference is personal preference. Garmin Technical Assistance has been very helpful in untangling the Cessna mess they left in the G300. 1) Finally have upgraded to G3X software to 12....

Re: Electric LSA
Electric Aircraft are the future. There are quite a few electric aircraft in development and the Pipistrel Alpha Electric was recently certified for use. An American company, Bye Aerospace, is well on the way to getting its 2 seat trainer FAA certified with a three hour range and a four place aircra...

Welcome aboard new SkyCatcher Owner. :) I have owned my Skycatcher for over a year now and really like it. It flys better than most LSAs very little adverse yaw, not twitchy in light to moderate turbulence and landing and take off is a breeze. My O-200D idles at 800 RPM smoothly. Rough idle could be...

Re: Paperwork required to convert SLSA to ELSA
Cessna originally had Garmin produce the G300 for the Skycatcher. As part of the deal Cessna owns the software. The last software release was 6.2 so if you have a SLSA Skycatcher that is the latest software you can use. Cessna will not allow anything above that. According to Garmin, when the Skycatc...

Re: Paperwork required to convert SLSA to ELSA
IF you own a Cessna Skycatcher and go the ELSA route as I have there are options you may want. Updating the G300 software is one of mine but there are issues in doing this. I converted to ELSA on October 28, 2020 and just recently went to Garmin to get RMAs to get refurbished Primary Flight Display ...

Re: Buying high time Rotax 912 ULS
CPS-Parts hast the 914 ULS 5 Year Rubber kit for $975. I recently purchased one and it did not include the two fuel lines from the banjo bolt manifold to the carbs. The line from fuel pump out to the manifold is included. Does not include the larger water lines form the water pump to the radiator or...

Re: Paperwork required to convert SLSA to ELSA
Here is the thing about the Cessna 162 Software. It is owned by Cessna, You have to go to a Cessna Service Center to get it unlocked and they are very picky about what they will do for you. For example, I installed the service bulletin for ADS-B out, and had to get the Cessna technican to unlock the...

Re: Paperwork required to convert SLSA to ELSA
Tomorrow is the day my Cessna is set free from the rusty cage it was placed in when the manufacture decided to quit production and abandoned the LSA fleet. Yes ELSA , New list of things to improve: 1) Update the G300 software from 6.2 to 6.11 :P 2) Go on a diet, remove the GTX 327 and GDL 82 - repla...

Re: How can I make an informed decision choosing between similar engines?
Be mindful of what you are focusing on. As a student and low time pilot I would recommend a reliable engine that is simple to maintain and operate. I really like the Rotax 912ULS and would like it more if it had one carb instead of two that need balancing and twice the cost at rebuild time. My curre...

Paperwork required to convert SLSA to ELSA
All, OK I am taking the plunge to ELSA. I found a local DAR who can do the job. This is important because not all DARs can issue LSA airworthiness certificate. First you need a DAR-T with 157 and or 158 endorsement. When you go to the FAA web site and search DARs this is the information you will nee...

Re: LSA vs Certified Exp
Dr. Paul, I watched your video on the converting SLSA to ELSA and wanted to thank you for the segment at the end showing the Skycatcher. I own N3037T and love it. It flies very nice, stable, good power, and great avionics. Cessna certainly has left the aircraft to die. . Some parts are still ...

Re: ADS-B In/Out for Experimental
A way bit late, but this was not available earlier. Uavionix.com sells a ADS-B unit that has both ADS-B Out and In for $1400 through Aircraft Spruce. The Echo bundle comes with a WAAS GPS antenna, a ADS-B In antenna, control unit, and wiring harness. The weight of the addition is 600 grams! Has an a...

Re: Erratic CHT sensor
There are two types of CHT sensors, Thermistor and Thermocouples. The thermistor is a temperature sensitive resistor that changes resistance with temperature. In a Dynon EMS system it is wired in series with a small resistor and the junction point is read by the EMS, these are prone to problems. The...

Re: LSA rental has inoperable fuel gauge. How to deal with school to fix it?
As the PIC, you have a responsibility not operate an aircraft you do not feel is airworthy. A standard or FAR is the minimum and hoping the aircraft owner agrees with your interpretation leaves a lot to be desired. However, as the renter, customer, I would tell the school that until the fuel system ...
