Re: SportPilotTalk.com Shutting Down in August

Sorry folks, I hadn't been on the site recently, and missed the fundraiser! Congrats on meeting the goal, and as the guy who "forgot his wallet" always says, "I'll catch you next time!"

Re: In Memoriam: Muriel Hykes

My deepest condolences on your loss, Paul. I never met your wife (or you either, for that matter), but I was just reflecting to my wife last night how much I appreciate her support as I'm going through some health challenges currently. I'm sure you provided that support, and more, for Muriel, and I ...

Re: Howdy from Phoenix, Az

Welcome! I did my initial training at the old Glendale airport, now closed for decades. Haven't been to the "new" one yet. But I'm sure it's still a beautiful area for flying!

Re: Experiences with VL3 SLSA?

Like the Bristell their operating instructions limit the RPM at sea level in order to comply with regulations (no more than 120 KCAS at sea level) but those restrictions are removed at altitude . Is that really how it works? Granted I'm a newbie, but that's not how I read the regs, e.g. "A max...

Re: Pandemic Precautions

The CDC has stopped counting seasonal flu deaths. This is not true. Full disclosure: my daughter is a CDC epidemiologist. I just confirmed with her that there has been no change in their tracking; they just haven't reported any deaths yet this flu season. They do expect somewhat less flu spread thi...

Re: Pandemic Precautions

The pandemic will be over with on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. If only (sigh). Sadly, the pandemic will be here until enough of us have immunity (via infection or vaccine) that it can't effectively spread any more. Unfortunately, that's likely to take at least another year, so we need to ...

Re: The Corona Virus is putting a dent on my meet ups.

I suspect that most of us who don't own our own planes are effectively grounded. Even if I could get to a plane to use, it would take a boatload of Clorox wipes to clean everything, and I'd sure have to buy my own headset (I know, should do that anyway!). But as it is, I'm sheltering in place a coup...

Re: Any near miss stories?

Had a slightly different pattern near-miss while solo training for my PPL back in the '70s. I was approaching the usual Unicom callout spot (over a water tower) to enter the pattern at the old Glendale airport near Phoenix (long gone now), and announced my intentions as I'd been taught. Over the rad...

Re: Hello from southern Delaware

Thanks, Paul. If I were closer to Lock Haven I would come see you -- I saw your Pilot Downsizer, and like the idea. I stopped in at Chesapeake Sport Pilot recently, met Helen and others, and will try to schedule with them soon.

Re: Midwest LSA Expo, 9/5-9/7/19

Yup, it's no Oshkosh for sure, but all sport/LSA, and from the list of exhibitors it looks like most of the major LSA builders will be there. I think I'd better leave the checkbook home!

Midwest LSA Expo, 9/5-9/7/19

I'm planning to stop in at the Midwest LSA Expo (www.midwestlsaexpo.com) in Mt. Vernon, IL on 9/5-7, 2019. It happens to be on my cross-country route west (by road, sadly) and at the right time. Does anyone have any info, suggestions, etc. about this event? It doesn't seem to get much love here.

Hello from southern Delaware

Hi everybody -- another rusty private pilot is ready to join the sport pilot world. I earned my license in 1979 during grad school, then (like so many others) career and family took precedence, and 40 years later, here I am. I only wish I had kept up with the changes in general aviation -- I hadn't ...
