Re: Take action! MOSAIC Comment period

The impacts of sunsetting the sport pilot certificate would be massive. That would first be 5000 more pilots who suddenly need a checkride when the system is already on its knees. And next that potentially adds so many more special issuance cases on top of the ones slowly moving through the system.

Re: Take action! MOSAIC Comment period

Gee my comments weren't so lengthy. Neither were mine. I got straight to the point. Hopefully FAA sees-through the longwinded negative comments, such as the one from "Meredith Holladay". The people that want FAA to dial-back MOSAIC (or scuttle it entirely) seem more concerned about themse...

MOSAIC

Hello all, Haven't written to this board in a while, admittedly I haven't been flying LSA much if any anymore as all my flying is in gliders as I finish out my commercial rating. At any rate, from what I've heard we may be in to hear from the FAA on the MOSAIC soon, and depending on what comes of it...

Re: FAA is probably dropping "LPA" and power index for MOSAIC

A tiny bit more info from just yesterday: https://bydanjohnson.com/midwest-2021-day-1-update-about-faas-mosaic-regulation-then-flying-the-fusion-chasing-the-fox/ Good news is the FAA looks eager to expand LSA and allow much more capability. Bad news is the guys who deal with pilot privileges, Fligh...

Re: FAA is probably dropping "LPA" and power index for MOSAIC

Saw this in an AOPA article in regards to LODA https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2021/july/29/faas-dickson-loda-is-a-four-letter-word: Regarding MOSAIC, the modernization of special airworthiness certificates, Dickson said the effort to improve and simplify approvals for aircraft and modi...

Re: FAA is probably dropping "LPA" and power index for MOSAIC

Now this is a change I never saw coming, of course if it's true. As long as I'll be able to fly a 172/Cherokee type aircraft I'll be happy as then that opens up so many rental places to me.

Sugar Buns at KESN

Anyone here have a PIREP for sugar buns at KESN? Looked like a fun place to try, and looks like it's inside the Maryland Air FBO there.

It has a dry 'useful' load of 445#, it carries 28 gallons of fuel = 168#, leaving 277# for pilot, passenger and luggage.... or ONE of my chubby self wearing very light clothing - LOL
Sounds worse than the 162

Re: Impact of new LSA rules on renting

The problem is, it's going to be a couple of years before anything is finalized. THEN, we don't know for sure if it's really going to include the 150, 172, etc. It looks like they may even add a new "class" (LPV?). Medical required. According to Dan Johnson, all present-day LSA wil...

Impact of new LSA rules on renting

Was curious what you guys thought on how the new LSA rules might potentially play out in terms of rentals. I'm personally excited at the potential opportunity to rent 150/152/172/PA28 type aircraft, but I'm curious how FBOs/flight schools will allow it, will they honor the sport certificate + driver...

Re: Rules enforcement?

It was suggested if they went through and changed this stiff it would render the CFI-S certificate null and void since it would require them to have a medical when teaching. Which I thought I may get it one day so guess that would be a dud.

Re: Counting PPL time towards CPL

Had some confusion on what "counts" towards a commercial certificate, gliders in this case. For a recap, these are the requirements of part 61: (f) For a glider rating. A person who applies for a commercial pilot certificate with a glider category rating must log at least - (1) 25 hours o...

Yeah right there, just allowing more weight to accommodate the 172/152 type airplanes is what everyone was asking for anyway.
