Being a former Cherokee 180 owner, my guess is that the warrior with the IAS in MPH is an older vintage. I'm guessing somewhere in the 80's Piper switch to knots.

Fast Eddie,

Concerning spousal weight -- I always combine my wife's weight with mine and never divulge separately. Helps to maintain domestic tranquility :-)

Can't explain the discrepancy between tl-ultralight's 'spec' page and their brochure. I have a physical LSA brochure on the Sirius (don't see it on the web site) that I received from SportAir which presumably will be handed out at the various LSA shows coming up. The 45 kg is also consistent with wh...

Jake, The Sting S3 empty weight is listed at 780 lbs (basic configuration). Mine goes just over 800 lbs with most of the bells and whistles. The brochure I picked up in Little Rock a couple week's back has the Sirus at 760 lbs. I'd think 780 lbs would be a good guess for a well equipped plane. To th...

Just because Roger owns a CT, doesn't mean he's not correct. Might need to touch up on your German: https://www.insolvenzbekanntmachungen.de/cgi-bin/bl_aufruf.pl?PHPSESSID=8e03a898ed7af6de2b06557a330c686d&datei=gerichte/by/agmuenchen/09/1508_IN_4024_09/2009_12_01__09_19_38_Sicherungsmassnahmen.h...

You might try the Sirius -- just rolled out from the same maker as the low-wing Sting S3. It has a yoke and a wide cabin. Don't know about the loading per seat. The S3 has a max of 250 lbs per seat. http://www.sirius.aero.

Headset(s) for Sale

I'm looking at upgrading to the LighSpeed Zulu so I'm offering my LighSpeed QFRXCc ANR headsets for sale. These are OEM'ed by SportAir (importer of the TL-Ultralight Sting S3) and I got them just short of 2 years ago. New they retail for $329 ($285 from the web). I'll take $150/each or $275/pair. Th...

Hi Jake, I've had my Sting S3 for about 2 years and it has met/exceeded my expectations in every way. The fit-n-finish is top-of-the-line and performance is in the top of the LSA class. Service/Support from SportAir has been good as well. I haven't seen the Sirius yet but I would expect the above to...

Or try US Aircraft finance: http://www.usaviationfinance.com/.

They underwrite their own loans so the decision is with the individual you deal with.

I don't believe you're going to find too many opinions on flying real IFR in an S-LSA since the standard doesn't currently exist. There is a draft standard that is likely to be adopted in the (near?) future but it's not there yet. AMD took a different stance on the existing standards and claim to be...

Bob, Once you have a PP you may let your medical lapse then fly an LSA subject to SP limitations. The key is you must never have FAILED an FAA medical. Then you can fly as SP as long as you have a valid driver's license and can self-certify your health. Given your mission (Utah and Georgia trips) a ...

Not trying to change the topic but the Galaxy Recovery System (competitor to the BRS) works a bit differently with the system itself inflating the canopy. In the above situation, the GRS should open. Of course, it may not stay inflated depending on the speed (forward or down).

Go for the new Garmin 495

I've got the Garmin 496 but if you don't need weather, music or roads (automobile mode) then 495 would be the equivalent and it is supposed to go for around $1500.

Another Hello from TX

Hi All! I've been a PP-ASEL for about 17 years getting my instrument ticket within the first year. I've owned a Cherokee 180 and a Bellanca Super Viking and used both planes (sequentially) as the family station wagon for a number of years. Around 11 years ago, we had complete engine failure in the B...

Updates/Clarifications to Sport Pilot/LSA rules this summer

I was reading my latest issue of EAA Sport Pilot and there was small paragraph that stated: Lastly, Buchanan confirrmed that some 22 changes are being incorporated into an updated SP/LSA rule to correct inconsistencies and other issues, including changing the altitude reference from mean sea level t...
