Re: Big Bore or Prop Upgrade Sling 2?

My Sting S3 with the 912ULS would do 127KTAS at 5500RPM and 5500 feet, lightly loaded. I think I did around 115KTAS at 5000rpm. It’s been awhile since I sold the S3.

My S4 914 Turbo with the same prop does 130 KTAS 😀

Re: Big Bore or Prop Upgrade Sling 2?

I did an upgrade from a Woodcomp to a DUC on my Sting S3 and saw 5+ knot increase in TAS. Climb improved as well but don’t remember the exact number. This was way back when DUC just came out and they were very competitively priced. I did the upgrade when the Woodcomp needed to be serviced so the del...

Do you have a valid drivers license? And have you ever been denied a FAA medical?

If you have a DL and haven’t been denied, you’re good from a medical perspective.

Re: Prop Upgrade for Speed?

Years ago, I upgraded my Sting S3 from a Woodcomp to a DUC Swirl prop and I think I got 5-8 knots of cruise speed. You might consider waiting for MOSAIC to be finalized this summer since it approves the use of a constant speed prop. I would expect most LSA manufacturers to approve them for their res...

What caulk do you use?

Re: Coming back to the fold

I put down a contract on 2019 Sting S4 last week. I really liked the Tecnam P2008 but none on the market for the last 6 weeks and didn’t want to risk losing the Sting. I honestly did know there WERE any 914 Stings. I should pick it up in a couple weeks then I’ll reregister E-LSA and add GPS-175 for ...

Re: In Memoriam: Muriel Hykes

It wasn’t clear to me but are you fully retiring or will you continue doing some of your prior services? I doubt that I will ever fully retire, Dave, but I'm cutting back. Primary instruction has become a full-time job, so my flight school officially shuts down on June 30. I will continue to do fli...

Coming back to the fold

I was likely one of first members of SPT — leaving in 2018 when I moved on to a Cirrus SR22 due to a mission change. Well the mission has changed again and lower and slower makes sense now so I’m in the market for an IFR/IMC equipped turbo LSA (that I’ll take E-LSA) once my SR22 sells. You leave for...

You might try Just Plane Tint. The universal plane tint might work for the skylight at a pretty reasonable price.

Re: Are icebox "air conditioners" worth it?

I’m out of the LSA world now but use a Switchbox Icebox in my current plane. Remote control and comes with its own battery or can run off ships power (or both since it has a switch). It uses a heat exchanger and a full load of ice lasts for 90 mins or so. The battery lasts at least that long as well...

4 Rotax Oil Filters PN: 825016

I was straightening the hangar today and came across a box of 4 Rotax Oil Filters (PN 825016). These run $19.95 at Lockwood, shipping was around $13 so a total of $93.75 (for 4). I'll sell them for $65 including shipping.
