Re: What certificate required
I think I'm done here. The pettiness is getting totally out of control. You guys have a good life and fly safely. If anyone cares, my last flight is scheduled for this Thursday, weather permitting. Otherwise, it will be before December 1 when my insurance expires. 55 years of flying with never an in...

Re: What certificate required
That's a max gross of 1212.5 pounds. Unless I miscalculated, that comes to 1210#, which is rather light for an LSA (by 110 pounds). How many grams in a pound (g in lb). 1 pound in grams. There are 453.59237 grams (g) in 1 pound (lb):. 1 lb = 453.59237 g. Pounds to Grams conversion 550 kilograms = 5...

Re: What certificate required
Because LSA also has stall speed limitations. The Sport Pilot certificate is built around LSA with lower stall speeds.

Re: What certificate required
If this is the same plane, it is LSA and would require Sport Pilot certificate or higher. "Please note: Speed performance is restricted and the in flight adjustable propeller disabled to comply with LSA category requirements in the USA which has a requirement for 120 knots max speed. All other ...

Re: Training Question
I think it would be little difference in getting your training in a Piper J3 or Cessna SkyCatcher. They are both relatively easy to fly and I doubt one would take any more time than the other. I have lots of time in both. Personally, I would train in the airplane I intend to rent after I am licensed...

Re: Training Question
Thank you Tim and Paul. I got the feeling that the CFI had not been teaching a long time; I had asked him about his general teaching experience and he said that he assisted at another school. I realize that everyone has to start somewhere, and he appears to be a good person/communicator, so I don't...

From FAR 61.313: "If you are applying for a sport pilot certificate with . . . Then you must log at least . . . Which must include at least . . . (a) Airplane category and single-engine land or sea class privileges, (1) 20 hours of flight time, including at least 15 hours of flight training fro...

Re: Training Question
You need at least 20 hours of flight in a airplane. Simulator training might be useful, but none of the hours will count toward a Sport Pilot certificate. In addition, if it was me, I would not be interested in learning things that are not part of the Sport Pilot requirements. I'm not sure what that...

Re: The new Sport Pilot Rule Changes
How did they do it last time? Do it the same way.
To me it's simple. You define what an LSA is, then you list all the aircraft that meet that definition.

Re: The new Sport Pilot Rule Changes
I suppose that rather than a blanket increase in stall speed and/or gross weight, the FAA could simply provide a list of training aircraft that could be newly defined as Light Sport, in spite of exceeding current limits. I’m thinking Cessna 150, Piper Tomahawk, Beech Skipper and Grumman AA1 as “LSA...

I'm still not seeing the question you were answering unless you're going back to January.
