Did you guys see this article? a CNN reporter got his Sport Pilot ticket in 12 days:
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/29/aviation/ ... index.html
It took me way longer, granted I learned at a class D airport in Los Angeles, not an uncontrolled field. Did you guys get your ticket in so few days? My oral exam was 4 hours, this guy's was only 1 hr. Seemed more like a BFR than a primary checkride.
Reading all those books and studying for the written took far longer than 12 days.
Am I just an old Fogey saying, "In my day...?" Probably just not bright as this guy.

TV, News and Movies: the more you know about a given subject the more unrealistic the presentation.
That's like the student that solos in five hours. Sure it can be done, but there is almost no ability to manage any "other stuff" that could happen.

According to the article he had 30 hours. Sure if we all did 30 hours in 12 days we'd probably get our licenses too.

I thought it was a nice article overall, I give the guy some credit for commitment ... and it speaks well of sport flying generally. Might motivate a few folks to do it ... and at least he is also committed to going forward with his PPL and then instrument, so that's a plus in terms of him not just saying "ok, I'm a pilot now, I don't need any more training."

Re: CNN: How I got a pilot license in 12 days
It's nice to know there are actually accelerated programs for Sport Pilot that work. I foolishly chased that dream, finding several flying schools on the INET that claimed "2 weeks". As I traveled from school to school, time and again I was given the "fine print", or given the up-sell to PPL, or worse yet told "older guys don't catch on as fast". Or "we don't do that anymore", or "the bank took our LSA" (but it was still sitting tied down on the tarmac). So I settled on a local school that had a Skycatcher and didn't make any promises (or excuses). Now I just enjoy the experience whenever I can get in, and hope to finish up sometime this year.

Re: CNN: How I got a pilot license in 12 days
I got my private in 1991, I already had the written, took 14 days of training and took the exam on the 15th day. I believe total time was about 60 hours in the 14 days.
I don't recommend doing it that way. too intense. Three weeks would be just about right in my opinion, if you want to do accelerated training.

This is the school where I'm training. I'll have to ask them about the article tomorrow.
