My home field is 7,100' elevation and this type of crash is somewhat common. You can almost bet the pilot did not lean for best power.

Critics have not been shy about taking Gropp to task for various decisions, including an attempted liftoff at altitude with a fully enriched mixture, and failure to abort the takeoff once the ground roll stretched to excessive length.

Yeah. Critics here said that and more.

Interesting that pilot broke his jaw. He was leaning forward anyway.

So his face hit the dashboard. CTSW has better seat belts. I've tested them and can only lean forward about 8 inches so hopefully if I go down won't have my face marry the instruments.

Shoulder harnesses also protect against head slamming the canopy/roof in turbulance too! (Don't ask me how I know.) I snug them good and even tighter if it's going to be bouncy.
