Man, you have the nicest places to fly out there. I'm going flying later in the week over the Appalachians. I'll try to take some pics. It will be the first time I've ever done any flying over the mountains. All my flying before was mainly in Florida.

How high AGL were you when you snapped those?

most were snapped at about 500' agl.

the highest terrain in the photos is 14,000' msl

i have a lot of experience in these mountains, for your 1st apalacian mtn flying start with 2,500' agl with light winds. envision the winds and know that the lee side of ridges and peaks is where the turbulence is and know that the turbulence can rise or undulate to altitudes much higher then the terrain that caused the turbulence.

I did a trip down the Hudson River canyon this past weekend over the George Washington bridge at 1000 ft past were the airliner landed in the river made 2 circles around the statue of liberty and back up the river to my home airport 12N kind of makes you feel privaledeged that we pilots all still have these freedomens in these post 911 days.
Not quiet as scenic as the picks you have posted and not the kind of flying that I usually
Enjoy but I am grateful to have an experienced good friend that lets me fly with him.

funny you should ask jim,

i climbed to 12k, never got above 220F.

since then i have gotten hotter. it is under control but i'm anxious to have the new oil lines installed and the cooler flushed.

Flying through the Bitteroots and Montana Rockies this summer I made an interesting discovery. Mountain flying improves your hearing. When your at 10k and looking UP at the peaks you can actually hear the spark plugs firing.
