Ok, I'll ask.
Does anyone have an opinion about what happened?

My opinion is that all speculation is meaningless until we have either sighted wreckage or positive identification of radar tracks. (Regardless of the fact that it makes great talk show fodder.)

Opinions are like propwash... Press is milking this for all they can get (ratings) and they all have their "Paid Experts" ... Best post was Andy's.. As Jack Webb said - Just the facts...
Re: MAH370
I think they had a massive electrical failure. Plane changed course on its own, by the time they realized it they were lost with no coms, or navigation. They made a guess which was wrong ended up running out of fuel over the ocean and glided it down to a controlled ditching in water the plane sunk as large chunks thus you can't find debris. Of course, this is just my crazy theory not backed by any knowledge of large aircraft or accidents. The whole thing is very sad I pray those who have lost loved ones are able to get some closure.
Re: MAH370
Best guess... Hijack suicide... FL45 to waste the passangers, autopilot until fuel exhaustion. Who knows...
Re: MAH370
Yeah...multiple generators, an airstream-powered backup turbine, and a huge battery bank. The chance of that airplane losing all electrical power is less than me being struck by lightning while being attacked by a shark on the day I win the lotto.MovingOn wrote:I can guarantee this is not what happened.langj wrote:I think they had a massive electrical failure. Re: MAH370
That's probably the best fit to the data we have right now. But if you are going to suicide with a big flying molotov cocktail, why not do it into something instead of just flying around until you run out of gas? The pilot was known to be a huge opponent of the Malaysian government, why just just turn back and fly it into a government building in Kuala Lampur?snaproll wrote:Best guess... Hijack suicide... There are just a lot of weird little discontinuities about this whole thing that makes it hard to fit to any obvious scenario.

I'm not so sure that follows, Andy. I'm known to be a huge opponent of my government, but that certainly doesn't mean I'm going to fly into a building.

Re: MAH370
You are probably not going to hijack a plane with 239 people on it either. I think people willing you use force to attain one objective are typically willing to use force to attain other objectives. You don't find many people saying they are willing to hijack a plane full of people on pacifist grounds.drseti wrote:I'm not so sure that follows, Andy. IF it was a hijack at all.
