Attaching images to private msg

When sending a private msg there is an option to attach a file - the problem is that no matter what file gets attached, it gets rejected with a message - extension (jpg, png, txt ... whatever ) not allowed - so I am wondering what is the point of this feature and if this message perhaps really means something else ...
