Large tank Sky Arrow for sale in CA...

Post by proemer »

This one has the 29 (?) gallon fuel tanks. I believe it was registered experimental in order to put in ADS-B out, AOA indicator, etc. (I have no connection to this)

Eddie, this was one of two Sky Arrows being sold by the previous distributor, located in Colorado. It’s sister ship, that I was looking to purchase was sold and crashed while being delivered to Florida with 41 hours on the Hobbs. That was little over a year ago I believe. That dealer lost out and the new distributor, as you know is Low Country Aviation, who inherited that plane and sold it, I believe, to the guy at Sly Manor airport. If memory serves me, they were asking $125k for it at the time. Not sure it was ELSA when I looked at them.

According to the Barnstormers ad, that Sky Arrow is right down the road from me at Gnoss Field (KDVO) in Novato. T.J. Neff is a broker on the airport who specializes in Socata Trinidads and Tobagos. I may fly down and look at it since I've never seen one in the flesh.

N612M was manufactured in 2012 has been registered to an owner in Novato, CA since August, 2013.

Stan, My Bad, I spoke without a closer look. Here is the plane I was referring to in my post.

All other parts of my description are correct. Didn’t realize there were earlier versions with Glass panels...

Two gorgeous planes, and the prices don’t seem unreasonable.

Where does a fuel tank that big even fit in a Sky Arrow without killing the cg?

I guess it's possible you couldn't carry a rear seat passenger with full fuel due to gross weight and/or CG.

The newer Sky Arrows carry the fuel in the wings, rather than the fuselage-mounted tank behind the seats.

With my plane, it’s almost impossible to bust the rear cg limit, even with a light pilot, heavy passenger and full fuel.

But still isn't the wing pretty far back on a Sky Arrow...?

It's not so much that the wings are pretty far back. as it is the seats are pretty far forward. ;)

Not in relation to the CG. :D

The rear seat passenger and fuel whether in the wing or behind the rear seat look to have a very short moment arm in relation to the CG. As long as the airplane is within limits with the pilot I doubt that fuel or passenger loading will take it out of CG, unless with just the pilot you were on the very aft edge of the CG limits.

My Sky Arrow
100 lb pilot
260 lb rear passenger
Max fuel for that loading;

Looks like it’s right on the edge of the envelope, but just OK.

On my Sky Arrow, the rear passenger is slightly AHEAD of the ok CG range, so the critical rear cg is reached with a 125 lb pilot, no passenger or baggage and full (18 gallons) fuel. (No, I don't have any problem exceeding the min. front pilot weight!)

I believe on the 29 gal version, all of the fuel is slightly behind the CG, but not by much. I'd guess that with the 29 gallons, the min forward pilot wt solo would be maybe 10 lbs more.

Other than the minimum front pilot weight for solo, it is indeed about impossible to get a Sky Arrow out of it's proper cg range.
