Sport NPRM
Hello. Is this move (NPRM) to have dual hours count from Sport CFI's dead in the water??? It appears a number of other things have been placed on the FAA's priority list.

Re: Sport NPRM
It's apparently been integrated into a part 61 rewrite that was due out over a year ago.

Re: Sport NPRM
Is this saying that training provided by a SP-CFI counts towards higher certificates? For sport pilots who want to earn a higher certificate level, the hours spent in sport pilot training would count toward aeronautical experience requirements for a recreational or private pilot certificate—a change AOPA and other aviation organizations petitioned the FAA to make as far back as January 2011. In addition, sport-pilot-only flight instructors would be allowed to provide training on control and maneuvering by reference to instruments to their sport pilot students under certain conditions.

Re: Sport NPRM
That's how I read it, Bruce. If so, the NPRM is even more generous than what Helen, Paul Hamilton, others, and I asked for in our joint AOPA/EAA/NAFI petiton 5 years ago. In that one, we merely requested credit for instruction from a Subpart K CFI on tasks for which the SP and PP PTS requirements were the same.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.

Re: Sport NPRM
The FAA gave an update on this at SNF. The part 61 rewrite is back on track and expected out within a year. It is expected to include a fix to the subpart K credit problem.

Re: Sport NPRM
I was told "8-10 weeks" from a source at a large Florida/Arizona aviation college. Given recent events, they aren't too excited about having their commercial students get 10 hours in Arrows. The language to have Technologically Advanced Aircraft time substitute for complex time for a commercial single engine rating was of importance to them.Helen wrote:The FAA gave an update on this at SNF. Especially now since you are not required to do part of your checkride in a complex aircraft.hook_dupin wrote:I was told "8-10 weeks" from a source at a large Florida/Arizona aviation college. Re: Sport NPRM
Does the proposed NPRM allow students who train with a CFI-S without a medical apply the dual hours towards a further rating?
Re: Sport NPRM
That was in the petition we filed 5 years ago, Ham. We won't know which parts make it into the NPRM until FAA publishes it. But (fingers crossed), that was our intent.

Re: Sport NPRM
Thanks, Paul.
That should be good news for a CFI-S without a medical!

Re: Sport NPRM
The medical has never been an issue with the exception of a CFI-S or CFI-A who needs to give instrument training. That's the only time the CFI needs a medical. Student getting training has nothing to do with the CFI having a medical or not.
