Changing a Sportstar Tire

Post by Dave C »

Hello all,

I am looking to fix a tire on my Evektor Sportstar with Matco wheels and brakes. I have downloaded the relevant manual from Matco and am trying to make sure I know how this wheel comes apart and goes together. The Matco information is not as specific to the Sportstar as I'd like. It looks like you need to remove the brake caliper and then remove the axle nut to pull the wheel and bearing hub off as one. See the picture below. There is a big tapered steel thing sticking out that doesn't look like a nut. Is that the axle nut? If so how do you turn it? What am I missing? Do any other planes have an axle that looks like this?

If it is an external caliper remove the caliper, if it is internal remove the disk. Yes, that ugly looking thing is the axle nut. I looks homemade.

It has an external caliper. The ugly conical thing doesn't really look homemade in person. The tapped hole in the end of it is one of the mounts for the wheel pants.
